Go back to advance, tell them you need plugs for a 19XX MAZDA RX-7, Non-Turbo, when they get to the plug screen tell them two trailing and two leading, NGK.

Zach, so was I the straw that broke the camels back?! Did I not buy enough beer/pizza/strippers?! How much are you going to charge?

Josepi 04-14-03 09:01 AM

After lunch, I can go out to my car and get you the #'s for the plugs...

I want to say that they are BURQ7 something and 9 something...

I'm also going to yank the CPU outa mine, and solder it here at work...it'll give all the people in the library something to watch I guess...

:)

Zach McAfee 04-14-03 10:13 AM

BUR7EQ and BUR9EQ, but they'll look at you stupid if you say that too. Just act like a dumbass and tell them you need spark plugs. When they get a confused look on their faces, you know they're looking at the spark plug screen and they're trying to figure out what leading and trailing is. Fun stuff.

Rob, you supplied plenty of beer & pizza :D . Each time I did a rebuild, I was doing something different. The first one was just a rebuild, the second was an NA street port, and the third was a TII street port. Doing another engine wouldn't be as exciting, so I'd rather knock it out. I'd also rather not pull the engine, just because I can't keep the car at my garage.

I know, I'm picky, but damn I'm good. Price? That depends on how long it takes me to do it, so it won't be much.

ok, so you want to tackle that 20b bridge port for my rex? :D j/k

the profile looks good zach, and i like the "i kicked mikes ass, and mike kicked everyone else's ass because they didnt show up" :p: thanks man

l33trx7 04-14-03 11:19 AM

ok that sounds good, just one minor problem, I have no clue how to pull the engine. Is that rebuild video specific on turbo or non turbo, and I believe you said the Haynes manual is pretty good in terms of taking the engine out, but isn't so good for the putting back in of the engine. Well at least you have taken the dremel out of my hands, I would probably destroy the rotor housing. Also do you ask for payment before or after you do the rebuild? Sorry for the 20 questions.

onepointone 04-14-03 11:26 AM

oh and yea i want the pictures if you can send them zach. straight_into_concrete@hotmail.com. thanks

I was down on Midlothian Turnpike today for an interview and followed a CLEAN 3rd gen into a parking lot. I asked if he knew of any that were for sale and he said this one. It was a 93 Touring, looked like it had just rolled off the showroom floor. He spent $12,000 in upgrades on it back in 1995 (I think) with Peter Ferrell. Has PF Intercooler, computer, big brake package, adjustable suspension (not sure what kind) full exhaust, 3mm apex seals, mild streetport....i was drooling. Probably the cleanest FD I have seen. If anyone has a spare $16,000 laying around, it is yours.

What color was it?

rgordon1979 04-15-03 09:05 AM

sorry, vintage red.

afterburn27 04-15-03 03:35 PM

I am pretty sure I have seen this car also. I parked near it one day and I took a close look at it. It is one awesome fd, if I only had 16,000 dollars... :(

onepointone 04-15-03 10:25 PM

i know a guy at that works at the local goodyear shop that has one for sale that sounds like that. was it an older guy? if its the same one, its a REALLY nice car. i know hes on the 3rd or so engine though

rgordon1979 04-15-03 10:33 PM

l33trx7 04-16-03 01:24 AM

The haynes manual is good for pulling the engine, but common sense will help you the most. Just label what isn't obvious (plugs, vac lines, ect.).

I'm picturing masking tape labels over everything...

One wrapped around this big thingy labeled "engine"...

:D

l33trx7 04-16-03 09:49 PM

LMAO. Yep, thats probably right, obvious is relative, something thats obvious to you is like umm, what the hell is that to me. Either way good one Joe

On a side note to all those with 2nd gens, check your TPS. My TPS is a newer unit with ~20K on it now. I set it perfectly when I got it, and maybe set it last ~5-6 months ago. Slightly bored yesterday, I pulled off my IC (it was HOT yesterday...) and checked it out. I was more that .20v off...

~0.78v on the full range instead of ~1.00v.

:(

fellow richmonders: Dyno tuning?

Hello everyone. I've been on the forum but haven't posted much in the regional section. The question I had was if any of you guys knew any local shops that will dyno tune for a PowerFC. I have a 3rd gen that i'm running base mod maps for and would like to get it fine tuned with a wideband. I go to school at MCV and was looking for something nearby since I don't have much time to travel far.
If any of you have any experience with tuning with PowerFC and some extra time, I might purchase a DIY WBO2 kit soon, so perhaps we can all get together and learn how to tune. Any help or advice is welcome!

Thanks in advance.

DavidR 04-17-03 07:16 PM

RXJJang- You may want to go to Demetrious in Maryland. I'm afraid he is the closest.
Not that the everyone on this forum is not knowledgable so I don't want to offend anyone.
I in the middle of doing a single turbo upgrade and I'm towing mine to KD Rotary when I'm done. I don't want to take any chances.

Let me know if you get the wideband, depending on the accuracy, i'd give you 30 bucks just to borrow it for a day.

:)

hey zach i got a ?? for ya on the flywheel how far does it have to be back on the taper before you can feel safe about bolting the nut on?I have tighten the bolt like the haynes manual states, with a impact gun but when i take the nut back off to look at the taper its not nowhere as far on the eccentric as it was when i pulled it off.

Actually, my car looks similar besides the spoiler; i'll let you guys know when/if i purchase one.

DavidR, thanks for the tip, although I wish one were alot closer. I ate lunch with you and Rob a while back, how's it going? We'll have to check out your setup soon!

Does anyone else know of a shop, or am I going to have to go to KDR's?

DavidR 04-18-03 10:03 PM

I thought that may be you. I haven't heard from you in a while. Have you gotten your car on the track yet?
I'm surprised your switching to the PFC.
KDR is the place to go, he is very nice and has fair prices.

DavidR 04-18-03 10:05 PM

I forgot to add. RXXJang has the cleanest 3rd gen I have ever seen. Everything is perfect.
How is medical school?
