ok, well... tore down the motor.

results -

everything was in really good condition, all the bearings and so on, considering the motor has 200k on it. the only thing that was shot was the housings, they are completely fucked. they looked fine until we got the rotor out of it and it showed all kinds of peices missing from the housing from the rotor. i havent looked over the rotors too closly, but they looked in decent shape. tomorrow im taking my side plates to shop class to use the parts washer, then ill go and see whats usable and whats not.

so far the $$ keeps rising and rising. looks like this is going ot be a pretty hefty money pit.. but i guess it will be worth it when its in.

yea he already messaged me, but im low on cash right now, however if the price is right I may be able to get it. I just hope the price is right lol.

Thats sounds familiar. Sounds like a hell of a deal for the carb and manifold.

definately excited about sunday, but if it rains period, im not running, i had the shittiest time trying to control my car from understeer last time and i kept running off course because of it.

well, looks i won't be there next sunday, I'll be spending all weekend taking apart the silver car so i can sell the parts, but the return is worth it, anyhoo, I'll be cheering for you all, take lots of pics. Sounds cool zach I'd bet on you but im broke :(

what do yall think? a way to fix not knowing if your 5th and 6th ports are working right. using something like an adjustable shift lite, but instead of a light coming on, you have a motor that opens the ports say at 3500-4000rpms? i was going to wire mine open, but if we can get something going, it would be a neat idea, plus it would be more reliable and easier to tell if your ports are working properly.

You can use a RPM switch from summit. I've been working with a few different people including an elecrical engineer, but the project got put off for school, ect. I'm hoping to get back on it this summer (just a few weeks by the way :) ).

Just out of curiosity how much would it cost if I were to rebuild an S5 turbo engine on my own? I mean in terms of parts and stuff.

Well, you can find kits for as low as $600, but count on spending at least a grand. Stuff will add up. If you need new rotor housings, the price can double. The more you can spend, the more you should. Cutting corners only decreases the life and performance of the engine. Prime example is the difference between new and used rotor housings, much better low end torque, and obviously longer life.

I'm asking because I have the option of getting a turboII with a blown engine, or getting one with a j-spec...nevermind what I think about j-specs. Personally I would like to do the rebuild myself (with help), so that way I know what went into it. I need to figure this out fairly quickly though. I would really hate to have the guy spend the money on the j-spec and then i turn around and say oh i don't want a j-spec.

I need a new hobby.
 

Well, I figured since I had the day off :D I would go ahead and replace my slave cylinder that I thought had been leaking. I do all the necessary steps, take off intercooler and everything else that needs to come out, take the slave off, go to put the new one on and what do you know, it does not fit. The bolt holes are in the wrong place, it looks like it is for a n/a. Well, I go to pop the hatch to get the old one out and put it back in and not to my surprise anymore :rant:, there is some kind of fluid on the floor pan under the hatch release. I quickly figure out it is brake fluid so I yank the carpet down and I see the path the fluid has been taking from the master cylinder to my floor pan, I am guessing about a quart over the past week or so. I happened to have a master cylinder I took off my n/a a while back so I slapped that on there with the old slave and it seems to be working fine. I still don't trust the old stuff so I am going to order new ones and put them in this weekend sometime.

FYI for those that have a TII: All of the advance stores seem to list the n/a slave cylinder for the TII as well. They have another part number that looks to be the TII version, but for some reason none of the stores can get it.

where can you get them for $600. cheapest ive seen, atleast for a gslse motor, is $800. im going for the kit that has everything but new bearings. anywhere to point me? :)

What's wrong with a J-spec? It's just like any other engine, but with low miles. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than rebuilding an engine, unless you want to do porting, which requires more money anyways for increased intercooling, fuel control, and boost control. If I ever come across some money this summer, I'll use a J-spec for the NA->TII conversion.

nothing worng with a jspec, I can just get the car for a lot cheaper without the jspec plus I can rebuild the engine and do some minor porting (like rob's). Only problem is, I've never rebuilt an engine. Zach do you charge for your rebuilding services? I think this one I'm gonna need some help on.

i was there to view the rebuilding of rob's tII motor, it doesnt seem that hard. im pretty confident i could do it on my own after seeing it that one time, even though i probably wont ;)

who all is going to the autox tomorrow? its supposed to be in the 60's and sunny. should be alot better than the last one.

man would love to go to the auto x,but one problem i dont have a car(hmmmmm i got the protege rental car????)LOL just kidding its an auto.I got my motor thursday morning from kevin,very kewl guy would be willing to talk to ya if it wasnt snow on the ground and 2 A.M.i have most of the stuff bolted on and will be putting it in the car wed. or thurs. but still waiting on some parts like oil cooler lines and misc. gaskets and injectors cleaned.

I think any other rebuilds I do I would do by myself, kinda knock it out in a couple days, and yes I would charge. Not to much for a RRR member though :) . The beer and pizza thing only goes for small favors.

i was going to go but i decided to put the rest of the motor together.Its done except flywheel and a couple of misc. gaskets and injectors being cleaned.hopefully will be installing it thurs.

BTW: i got my new header to engine gasket from racing beat and it doesnt have a hole in the bottom for a port of somekind.My old gasket has the hole and the stock manifold gasket also has it?Whats it for and why does my old gasket have the hole and not the new one?New one just has hole for the studs.

also this sounds stupid, but I need to know where I can get spark plugs for our cars, when i went to advance auto parts and I asked for trailing and leading plugs the guy looked at me like an idiot. Also what kind of plug wires do you recomend out of curiosity. My car is screaming for new plugs. heheh looks like i get to more car repairs on the top level of the parking deck, it sure does make working on your car interesting knowing any minute the parking nazi's might come and try and get you in trouble. :)
