hey 88vert... how much for the blown s5 motor? Did it fry or just lose compression? Has it been disassembled or is the long block all in one piece? Let me know I have a 91 with a motor preparing to die at any time and I'd rather builld one myself than get raped b/c someone else built it and I have plans for porting ,seals, turbo ect and it is much more cost effective if I have a block to start off with.

It is complete, I even have all the intakes and accesories, not on the motor but nearby. The motor came out of a 91, the guy installed the motor, he said he had bought it used from action auto parts and it had compression, he never finished the install and when i went to pick the car up it had no compression on the front rotor. I only spun the car over a couple of times, never tried to pour tranny fluid in it or oil. Ill let it go for $100 with accesories or $75 for just the motor. Let me know, need to clean out the parts shed.

Well it's been a week now since the clutch went out.
If you remember last Tuesday morning when it was frreeeekin cold is when it happened.
I suspect the 16 yr. old rubber hydaulic line gave up the ghost and split open.
I got about 2 blocks befor complete failure, 1st gear back to the house, and park.
I've got a Corksport SS braided line on the way, I'm going to take this as a warning sign and replace the brake lines next.
OH and the primary Cat split open on me about week before that - but the inspection is not due till June. I am looking at getting the Bonez hi-flow cat. Anyone know the legalities of putting a header on, the muffler shop didn't wanna do it because - according to them - the car has three cats, one being right by the exhaust ports. I didn't feel like spending the hour to convince them an S5 is a bit different form an S4 in that regard. Looking at CS header btw, those guys are gonna luv me.

That header is gonna make it loud and buzzy. You may want to consider just the high flow dp and cat from Bonez. Thats what I had on the 87.

So noted.
Buzzy I don't think I'd mind to much but loud is what I'm trying to avoid - that and tickets.
Anyway the exhaust work isn't going to happen till after the new year.

Dave, which line are you speaking of? I am swapping my tranny soon and throwing in a new clutch, and I don't know what line you are speaking of.

Wilson, still want the 2+2 blue leather rear seats? call me back dude!

I am not sure if the exact placement but I believe it's near the clutch slave cylinder.
It's intially hard line off the clutchmaster cylinder but where it switches to the rubber line underneath the car I couldn't tell you.
I would probably get underthe car and take a shot at it, but I had a bunch of tools stolen (including all my metric wrenchs) at the VMSC Oct. 22nd autocross

Damn, I thought VMSC was a trustworthy group. I guess there is a ******* in every crowd.

As far as the line, the rubber line starts near the top of the firwall, I think above the oil filter. It goes down about 8-10 inches to the slave cylinder.

I had one of those anime light beam through the head moments after reading this.
I had wrongly assumed it would be a bitch to get but its right friggin there, hell I even moved the slave cylinder back with my hand.
I really should have looked at the Haynes repair manual.
Anyway the brakeline is frayed and cracked at one end but doesn't seem to be leaking, nor does the master cylinder, nor does the, slave - as far as I can see but a resevoir of fluid drained out somewhere, and I refilled since an it's down to half full now. It's going somewhere! I will say when I pushed the slave back and the resevoir filled with fluid it was cloudy and nasty lookin.
Maybe the clutch master cylinder is shot after all, it looks to be the original one.

I had one go bad one time and could not figure out where the fluid was going. The piston in the master went bad and was leaking fluid through the inside of the firewall and it collected in the floorboard under the carpet. May want to check that out.

I read that somewhere else on the site while researching it yesterday (yes I actually used the search function) so I'll be checking for that. While she's parked I might as well change the oil too.
The FD has been spitting coolant out the overflow tank all week, it did that several times this summer. So $6 later at NAPA I bought the pressure cap for my Pettit Racing AST, ran the hell out of the car last night just to make sure and all that - not a drop of leakage. YAY!!! (also yay for the ever useful search function)

well it was apparently just the clutch line after all, it finall started leaking where I could see it and it was also daytime when look instead of at night with a flashlight
Dave's Helpful Hints:
-remove the oil filter - makes life easier and opens up some room to work in
-have a friend handy for bleeding the system - plan ahead or you'll bee running out to pepboys and buying a self bleeeder set-up that really sux and makes a mess
-put some paper towels or shop rag over the oil filter base so you don't get brake fluid in you oil system - second best idea I had that day

Hey Wilson, I'm just going to take the 2+2 seats out this week, so just let me know when you're ready to pick 'em up!
