Also, let me look for my carb FC info. Early Euro FC's had distributors, but the 12A dizzy also works pretty well.

I'd rather stick with S4, since I don't have the S5 bumpers.

anyone need any parts...TII hood for $120 has light hail damage...
Hood for me. Is it color code WY by any chance? :)

Oh yeah, I need DS trim!

ive also heard the 12a dizzy works. people also use the 12a dizzy when doing megasquirt setups.
definately wait till after winter to carb anything, it BLOWS ASS... trust me.
I think I'm going 12a dizzy. I'll look in my old RB catalog and see what's there.

WY yes the color code just happens to be WY, it does have some hail damage but not to bad and not really noticable except at a angle, the fender trim is black and all the pieces are there. You are really working your way to a 87 10th anny.

No, thanks. I'm selling the '87, and the GTU already has the big brakes.

When is a good time for me to pick up the hood and trim? I have the 30th and the 31st off, so that would work for me.

88 vert 12-20-04 11:32 PM

dead_fc 12-22-04 02:02 AM

does any one here know where i can get a gasket rebuild it that isnt gonna cost a arm and a leg ?

niburu 12-22-04 07:13 AM

unfortunately thats really the only thing that makes rotaries expensive to rebuild, I haven't seen any kits for under a grand

onepointone 12-23-04 12:38 AM

i think atkins rotary has the cheapest kits if im not mistaken.

i was toying around the other day at work, and i tore my old motor down. it didnt look that bad at first, but after some cleaning and more inspection, MAN that front housing was fucked. the front was alot worse than the rear, but for some reason, the rear was the one that wasnt firing.

conclusion = i REALLY dont think the motor was bad. tired, yes, bad, no. i think my dad really doesnt know what the fuck hes talking about, but since he was willing it pay for half my motor, and it had 19k miles on it, i jumped on it. he swears up and down the motor was blown, but you could still see that it had compression front and rear.

i took lots of pictures, ill try to upload them tomorrow, or x-mas eve. im thinking of rebuilding the motor, possibly a 4 port 13b.......... turbo bitches. :D depends if i can find the right parts. everything in the motor looked to be in good shape minus the housings. the e-shaft had alot of heat marks on it. is that ok to re-use? i know if i do a 13b, i dotn use that e-shaft, but if i stay with the 12a rotors, can i reuse it?

So basically you need a set of good 13B housings, rotors (low comp turbo rotors?), and e-shaft?

fo sho... im uploading hte pictures right now.

You wouldnt happen to live in greenhouse apartments would you? Is that car a auto or 5 speed? I doubt you would be able to sell it for much money, if it means something to you or you are willing to put like $1500 into it to get it running then its worth keeping. Or just hold out and you can get lucky sometimes on motor deals you just may have to drive a little ways to pick them up. I found a motor that had been in a car fire, picked it up from maryland and cleaned it up installed it in my vert and it runs damn good, no smoke, no flooding, can leave the car sit for 3 months and turn key and it purrs like a kitten.

onepointone 12-24-04 11:41 AM

i also wanted to add that...

one of the guys at work was a master tech at mazda in the second gen/early thir gen days (he came to lexus in early 94) anyways, he thought the apex seals were rubber!!! he picked one up and asked me what it was, i told him it was the apex seal, and he goes "damn, i could of sworn they were rubber".

Ok, I'll give you a call in the morning.

What the deuce?!?
Speaking of...you almost hit me with that little white wonder last Friday morning Speed Racer.
I'm thinking around 5.5K. You interested? It's the fastest RX-7 in Richmond ;) . Everything is included; I don't have time to swap it all over.
Yeah, I was probably late, I'm almost always late.

As far as rebuild kits, it'll cost you about $600, and then whatever it costs for a used rotor and used housing, assuming those are trash. I think it is safe to say, everything said and done, about $1000 to rebuild it yourself, turnkey. Of course, assuming you didn't screw up. :)

Mike, I have a 12a & 13b eshaft. I have a handfull of other stuff you can have. Just let me know. Turbo 4 port in sounds like fun.

Merry X-mas errrbody. :)

onepointone 12-26-04 01:42 AM

i might take you up on that zach. im really thinking turbo 4 port 13b it is. the only thing is, i want it to be done right since i have the motor apart, and that might cost me some $$$.

also, i cant find a decent rebuild kit for a 12a. they are mostly for 13b cars. i found a rotor kit (oil seals, side seals, corner seals, apex seals, all the springs, front/rear main seals) but no coolant seals and ect.

i know if i do the 4 port thing, i have to use first gen 13b rotor housings because of the way the coolant seals are cut, so do i have to use a first gen 13b rebuild kit? will all the gaskets and shit fit? if i have to buy 2 different kits, and mix them up, i dont think it would be worth it.

im not sure what i would do for fuel. megasquirt sounds cool, but i dont know if i want the headaches. i might use a decent sized weber and do a blow through. id have to use atleast a t3, maybe a t3/t4. intercooled definately.

i think my little first gen would be alot of fun with 200-250 hp :D

well i found a guy that is selling his old s5 engine b/c he just did a t2 swap on his 89 he only wants 150 for the engine but he lives in nj and the engine needs to be rebuilt do you guys think that it would be worth it ?

Wouldn't that be one step forward and two steps back?! I would steer clear and find one out of a wrecked car that is in running condition.

I dont think thats quite a good idea, now you would just have 2 motors needing a rebuild. Its not that hard to find these motors or parts for these motors. I seen you looking at some of the same motors i have inquired about and ive seen some pretty good deals. You just have to know if it is worth it to you, my brother got his self into a little more than he bargained for when he picked a RX7 to rebuild and use as a daily driver. They have lots of gremlins and they are ready to growl when you dont seem to have the time or the money to fix them.

88 vert 12-26-04 09:10 PM

my turbo swap should start next weekend, if i can convince the wife to park her car under the carport for awhile. Ill have both cars side by side and hopefully it will go smooth. I might pull the motor out of the TII first to see why it isnt boosting, im thinking its the wastegate or bad turbo. And i might take a little bit of time to clean the engine bay on the vert, and get rid of the rest of the AC chit. Ill try and take plenty pics and get them posted.

just like they said, what would justify getting another motor that needs to be rebuilt? they you would have two bad motors, and you would be in no better of a situation. the only thing good i can see, is if both have a blown rotor, you can get a rotor/housing from the other motor, but you still need a rebuild kit, and a rebuild. its far worth it to just get a running motor.
