hey thats kewl, congratulations on the RX8 purchase. You still got the mazda 3? At least with the 8 you have a warranty and not to big of a money pit besides payment.

Thanks. I traded the 3 in. Yeah, it is soo nice to have a warranty. I am itching for a super or turbo kit to come out to see how much it will cost. It is a blast so far though, this break-in period is really driving me crazy though.

^^^ I'll see if anyone I know would be interested

OK this going to be rather random:

Zach - let me know if you have any 325is questions, and you can check mine out sometime.

Well that was a surprisingly fast yet difficult course yesterday, watching the Lotus Elise take it though was entertaining.
So who is going to be autocrossing next year?
Where can I get the socket needed to change out the sparkplugs?

Well, to add to my not-being-able-to-decide -ness, I'm looking at something I can drive everyday and tow my track car. I'm wondering if a Range Rover will be a sufficient tow vehicle for 2400 lbs. plus a trailor.

I aM doRiftO on that track! Another cool AutoX. Not very technical, and not much too remember, but cool anyway.

Where can I get the socket needed to change out the sparkplugs?
Anywhere? Do you need the special one that fits inside the housing? If not, it should be a standard socket.

well, the motor swap went pretty smooth. i started working on the car about 1ish. i had a bare block (the new motor) and transfered everything over including that nasty *** rats nest over (all the emissions **** for you non-first gen guys). i dropped the motor in, spent about $41 on fluids and spark plugs, and no ****, the thing fired RIGHT up. it got turned over maybe once before it caught. it smokes like HELL right now because the guy had regular oil in there to preserve the internals, and the floats in my pos carb are still sticking even though it just got rebuilt. (i was kinda expecting that).

the motor sounds real good as far as compression goes. i turned it over with no plugs in it to spew some of the oil out, and it sounded alot more solid than the other motor. i run a compression check on it tomorrow to see where it stands compared the the other motor. i wish i didnt have those damn carb problems.

I had one of those at one time, but over the course of moving several times, friends borrowing stuff, and I haven't had to (or been able to) change plugs for so long lord only knows where it is. Milwaukee maybe.

..........................

When it redlined it probably flexed the shaft and cause the bearings to lock onto the eccentric shaft or the rotor(s) to contact the side housings and lock up. Either way it will most likely need a rebuild.

Did it make any funny noises when it redlined or as you shut it off?

Looks like the TII may be out of here this Friday. Does anyone want dibs before I call this guy back?!!

i put about 50 miles on the car tonight, and im driving a 60 mile round trip to work tomorrow with it. so far everything seems in order. my "add coolant" light keeps coming on, and its full? ill have to mess with it tomorrow.

im going to put it on a lift tomorrow at work to make sure everything under the car is tight and looks in good order (i did the swap with the car on jackstands). so far the motor feels real strong. i have no problem keeping the car, i think im just ready to move to something with more power / a better suspension setup from the factory. i dont really like the way the first gens have solid rear axles.

SOOOO EXCITED

here she is with no motor, it was kinda weird seeing my car like this.

notice how the front is white? thats not normal is it?

everything ready to go....

getting ready to start her up...

SMOKED like a champ. i didnt think to have the camera ready. it was MUCH worse at first.

clean rotor housing

i had to get this... i have a couple different friends stop by here and there, but my girlfriend was there when i took the motor out, she was there when i swapped everything over, and when i put the thing in. even today when i was having all those problems. she got her hands dirty helping me out, and she even said she liked doing it, but next time she wanted to do more stuff . i thought that was pretty dope. she asked alot of questions and i showed her how all the stuff works. if she didnt know what it was, she asked. if she didnt understand i showed her. definately badass

everything together...

i had many carb issues. i think they are all sorted out.. i REALLY wish i had a holly or weber.....

and this is the old motor. that thing was one HUGE oil leak. im going to take it apart sometime next week when i have some time so i can see the damages. its had a long and hard last 35k miles. lots of autox, running hard... just generally abuse.. ill admit. strong *** motor. it still has compression. i think there were other problems that caused it not to run (ie: ignition and carb flooding). i think it will still run, its just old and tired. ill post some pictures of the inside when i get a chance.

Dave's problem of the week:
I have had a small coolant leak for loike a month now and today I finally found it.
The bottom portion of ater pump seal is leaking under full throttle.
Obviously I need to replace the gasket, should I just replace the water pump while I'm at it?
Is this a big pain in the as or can I do it in my driveway?
-time passes-
OK confered with my mechanic, he's pretty sure it the pump itself leaking out it weep holes at the bottom.
Looks like new water pump it is, hope they ain't expensive

I know someone who does rebuilds pretty cheap

I don't think you'll like the price for parts, though. Are you ready to spend $1400?

...my girlfriend was there when i took the motor out, she was there when i swapped everything over, and when i put the thing in...
Keep her.

I don't think the offsets are going to be very favorable. I'm thinking of flipping them on eBay to make some play money but I don't know yet.
