Naa, just picked up a RX-8 a few weeks ago. I can only afford one money pit right now. :D |
hey thats kewl, congratulations on the RX8 purchase. You still got the mazda 3? At least with the 8 you have a warranty and not to big of a money pit besides payment.
|
Thanks. I traded the 3 in. Yeah, it is soo nice to have a warranty. I am itching for a super or turbo kit to come out to see how much it will cost. It is a blast so far though, this break-in period is really driving me crazy though.

^^^ I'll see if anyone I know would be interested
OK this going to be rather random: Zach - let me know if you have any 325is questions, and you can check mine out sometime. Well that was a surprisingly fast yet difficult course yesterday, watching the Lotus Elise take it though was entertaining. So who is going to be autocrossing next year? Where can I get the socket needed to change out the sparkplugs? |
Well, to add to my not-being-able-to-decide -ness, I'm looking at something I can drive everyday and tow my track car. I'm wondering if a Range Rover will be a sufficient tow vehicle for 2400 lbs. plus a trailor.
I aM doRiftO on that track! Another cool AutoX. Not very technical, and not much too remember, but cool anyway. Where can I get the socket needed to change out the sparkplugs? |
I went through my pile of sockets, looks like I'll have to take a walk over to Sears
|
I meant standard spark plug socket, btw.

well, the motor swap went pretty smooth. i started working on the car about 1ish. i had a bare block (the new motor) and transfered everything over including that nasty ass rats nest over (all the emissions shit for you non-first gen guys). i dropped the motor in, spent about $41 on fluids and spark plugs, and no shit, the thing fired RIGHT up. it got turned over maybe once before it caught. it smokes like HELL right now because the guy had regular oil in there to preserve the internals, and the floats in my pos carb are still sticking even though it just got rebuilt. (i was kinda expecting that).
the motor sounds real good as far as compression goes. i turned it over with no plugs in it to spew some of the oil out, and it sounded alot more solid than the other motor. i run a compression check on it tomorrow to see where it stands compared the the other motor. i wish i didnt have those damn carb problems. |

When it redlined it probably flexed the shaft and cause the bearings to lock onto the eccentric shaft or the rotor(s) to contact the side housings and lock up. Either way it will most likely need a rebuild. Did it make any funny noises when it redlined or as you shut it off? Looks like the TII may be out of here this Friday. Does anyone want dibs before I call this guy back?!! |
i put about 50 miles on the car tonight, and im driving a 60 mile round trip to work tomorrow with it. so far everything seems in order. my "add coolant" light keeps coming on, and its full? ill have to mess with it tomorrow.
im going to put it on a lift tomorrow at work to make sure everything under the car is tight and looks in good order (i did the swap with the car on jackstands). so far the motor feels real strong. i have no problem keeping the car, i think im just ready to move to something with more power / a better suspension setup from the factory. i dont really like the way the first gens have solid rear axles. http://www.streetneeds.com/uploads/dragva/motordone.jpg SOOOO EXCITED :D http://www.streetneeds.com/uploads/dragva/noengine.jpg here she is with no motor, it was kinda weird seeing my car like this. http://www.streetneeds.com/uploads/d...sideheader.jpg notice how the front is white? thats not normal is it? http://www.streetneeds.com/uploads/d...eadytogoin.jpg everything ready to go.... http://www.streetneeds.com/uploads/dragva/finished.jpg getting ready to start her up... http://www.streetneeds.com/uploads/dragva/startup.jpg SMOKED like a champ. i didnt think to have the camera ready. it was MUCH worse at first. http://www.streetneeds.com/uploads/dragva/12a.jpg clean rotor housing |

i had to get this... i have a couple different friends stop by here and there, but my girlfriend was there when i took the motor out, she was there when i swapped everything over, and when i put the thing in. even today when i was having all those problems. she got her hands dirty helping me out, and she even said she liked doing it, but next time she wanted to do more stuff . i thought that was pretty dope. she asked alot of questions and i showed her how all the stuff works. if she didnt know what it was, she asked. if she didnt understand i showed her. definately badass :D http://www.streetneeds.com/uploads/dragva/donemotor.jpg everything together... http://www.streetneeds.com/uploads/d...sswithcarb.jpg i had many carb issues. i think they are all sorted out.. i REALLY wish i had a holly or weber..... http://www.streetneeds.com/uploads/dragva/oldengine.jpg and this is the old motor. that thing was one HUGE oil leak. im going to take it apart sometime next week when i have some time so i can see the damages. its had a long and hard last 35k miles. lots of autox, running hard... just generally abuse.. ill admit. strong ass motor. it still has compression. i think there were other problems that caused it not to run (ie: ignition and carb flooding). i think it will still run, its just old and tired. ill post some pictures of the inside when i get a chance. |
it didnt make any unusal noises when it redlined ijus wish that i knew a place that could do a rebuild that wouldent charge a arm and a legaround here

Dave's problem of the week:
I have had a small coolant leak for loike a month now and today I finally found it. The bottom portion of ater pump seal is leaking under full throttle. Obviously I need to replace the gasket, should I just replace the water pump while I'm at it? Is this a big pain in the as or can I do it in my driveway? -time passes- OK confered with my mechanic, he's pretty sure it the pump itself leaking out it weep holes at the bottom. Looks like new water pump it is, hope they ain't expensive |

I don't think you'll like the price for parts, though. Are you ready to spend $1400? ...my girlfriend was there when i took the motor out, she was there when i swapped everything over, and when i put the thing in... i live near richmond but my fc is dead the engine is licked and to be quite honest i didnt know much about the fc when i bought one and i still dont know alot but i do know that my engine is locked when i bout the ccar i knew that it had been sitting a while anf i know that it isnt good to let a rotary engine sit so i was running it every day and one day i gave it some ags and the throtle got stuck and the engine redlined and i cut is off well i didnt mess with the car for the rest of the day and then the next day i went to start it and it wouldent turn over all it was doing was clicking so i took off the fan shroud and the clutch fan to see if i could turn the main pully and i broke a wratchet trying to lol but i would really like some input on what you guys think on this |

I don't think the offsets are going to be very favorable. I'm thinking of flipping them on eBay to make some play money but I don't know yet.
