I just wanted to say hello to all the fellow Richmonders. I bought my first 3rd gen a couple years ago and I am on my second now. And, no, I didnt blow the first one up. It is still running on the original engine I just sold it for a rather large profit. ;)

I don't know anyone in the Richmond area that has a 3rd gen. I am a member of the MSCW in DC, if anyone is familiar. Unfortunately, I do not make it to very many events or meetings lately.

My car is currently being fixed by Jeff, owner of Delta V on boulevard. The oil pan was leaking like a busted water main after only 5k on a waranty rebuild from Atkins Rotary in WA state. That and the oil filter line was leaking as well.

It will be nice to get this thing back on the road. It has been undrivable by me for some time now. Anyways, sorry to rant on and on, just wanted to say hello.

I have atteneded a few driving schools with MSCW. Great bunch of people and they put on one hell of an event.
Glad you found us.

angrycamel 11-12-04 11:42 PM

I heard about you, I believe. The guy that told me about this Richmond section of this site mentioned someone is doing a single turbo upgrade. Is that you? What turbo? How is it comming?

DavidR 11-12-04 11:47 PM

Who did you talk to? I also know of someone else doing a single upgrade, he lurks around from time to time.

My project is coming slowly to say the least. I now have most of the parts, including a V-mount and HKS T51 kai. I have recently ordered a few other parts that have been hard for me to find, a few J-spec parts. These should be coming next week.
All I need now is some time to do it.

angrycamel 11-12-04 11:50 PM

I don't recal his name. But he has a gold first gen he was telling me about and he was over at Delta V. He also has a new blue Mazda Speed Prot. I think they were putting shocks on it last night.

Anyways, just curious. Do any of you guys get together in Richmond? Or is there no real groups that are Richmond specific.

PS - If you have AIM, you cna catch me on angrycamelcom

DavidR 11-13-04 12:08 AM

I'm not sure who has the gold fb?

I have never heard of Delta V? Is that a foriegn car specialist? The oil pan is a PITA on 3rd gens. I had both of those problems on my last engine. I'm not sure why the gasket around the oil filter (and oil filler neck) are so prone to failing??

We should hook up some time, Jon (the guy with the other single 3rd gen) are planning something in Dec. He is in medical school and I travel all the time for my job so it is hard to plan.
I will let you know if you would like.

angrycamel 11-13-04 12:57 AM

Yes, deffinately keep in touch. I will be on here, but my email and screen name are in my profile if you wish to contact me off the forum.

I am a programmer and I work from home. I am pretty flexible, so whenever is fine. Looking forward to picking your brain about this car. I do not know very much other than what I pick up here and there and tuning this PFS piggy back ECU is on my mind a lot. Maybe you guys can shed some light on it. Just a shot in the dark.

Catch up with you later.

wow, haven't visited this thread in ages...

David,
Nice to see you back on the boards again. A meet sounds nice after I get my GT35/40R tuned with Demetrios. Seems like we're all in the middle of getting things situated...by the way the v-mount works amazingly; check out my impressions in this thread I put up a few months ago when I still had the twins in there: https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/rotary-extreme-v-mount-installed-329342/

PS.. Does anyone know of a place to get your car "inspected"??? I haven't driven my car out on public roads since middle of '03, and need to drive it up to Maryland to get it tuned. Forgive me if this has been asked a million times on this thread...I guess I'm a pseudo-newbie here. :D

I am taking my TII for an inspection to a place on Broad on Monday. Apparently he is pretty cool and will pass you for a extra $20. I will let you know how it goes.

DavidR 11-14-04 06:57 AM

Jon
Very nice pics, I can't believe how different you engine bay looks from the last time I looked at it.

So when was it you said you where coming over to help install my turbo???

angrycamel 11-14-04 09:22 AM

Provident Car Care on Hull, I think. Its just off of Powhite going back towards the city. Bill Claire owns the place. I bought my 3rd gen from him and he has taken care of me each time I needed inspection. Can't say for sure that he is willing to do that for everyone, but may be worth a shot.

PS - Nice to hear from you Brian. Got any pics of the first gen?

MFP10thAnn 11-14-04 12:01 PM

Hey- Do any of you guys know who owns the Yellow RX8 w/ Black Rims in town? He passed me on 195, and I think his tag said RXXXX8 or something similiar.

Very nice car. I am pleased to see the number of rotaries around Richmond increasing. We definitely need to do a meet!

DAMN, I need to get on the forum more than once a week!

Whats up with everyone complaining about my parking? I'm the best parker ever! I just suck at finding parking.

It seems to me that the best place to do a meet is at the autoX, since a few of us are there anyway. I'm not much for standing in parking lots.

David, I thought you got out of the RX scene or something! New stuff? My car is pretty much the same, but I bought a GTU and it's all kinds of stripped out, getting ready to be a track car. I'm an engineer at UPS now so I actually have money to spend on it, although I'm not really sure when I'll start spending money on it since I need to buy a sedan. Been looking at A4's, S4's, and M3's.

brianmcd 11-14-04 02:07 PM

woot2zach. Think you'll be up for a little more instructing this sunday? I got my new coilovers in + a harness.

Who said anything about hanging out in a parking lot, how about getting some beers or wrenching on a 7, or both!!:D

I would go with the M3. I looked at them for a little while before I got my current DD, great car but I couldn't justify it with my 7 still sitting in the garage.

Congrats on the new job, since your at a fortune 500 company does that mean you can start fabricating parts for us???:bigthumb:

Oops, I forgot to add that I'm going to try and make it on Sunday, what time is everyone running and who is going to be there?
