Redline Time Attack @ Summit Point August 5-6th
The last Redline Time Attack at Beaverun was a blast! Results for that event should be posted soon, but there were no RX-7's in attendance, whats up with that???!
Now I'm planning on attending the second east coast event at Summit Point's Shenandoah Circuit! This is a great time for anyone interested in performance driving to come out and there is a class for EVERYONE.
Most likely be in Street or Modified FWD. The biggest difference between the two classes is the type of tires allowed. Street requires street tires of course, anything with a 140 rating or higher. Modified class allows DOT-R tires, anything with a 40 rating or higher. Unlimited is basically all out race cars, allowing typical race car mods like lexan windows, slicks, etc. For more rules you can check out the site here- http://www.redlinetimeattack.com
These events are very relaxed. You tech your own car, you supply your own helmet. If the schedule is anything like the last event it will go something like this:
Saturday
Gates Open: 7 AM
Driver's Meeting: 8:30 AM
Novice Practice Sessions: 9-9:30AM
Intermediate Practice Sessions: 9:30-10AM
Advanced Practice Sessions: 10-10:30 AM
Novice Practice Sessions: 10:30-11AM
Intermediate Practice Sessions: 11-11:30AM
Advanced Practice Sessions: 11:30-Noon
Lunch Break: Noon- 1PM
And so forth with two more practice sessions until closing ~5PM
Sunday
Same style but with afternoon sessions being the Time Attack runs which went like this:
You get 5 laps out total; The first is a warm up lap to bring the tires and brakes up to temperature, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th are your hot laps where you want to set your best time, and the 5th and final lap is your cool down session before pitting.
Don't sit there reading this thinking "Oh my car isn't modded enough to compete." or "I'm going to get spanked so I won't even try". That's just a lame excuse. It's why there are different classes for each car based on modifications. Hell, at the last event there were faster laps being put out by the street cars than some of the modified class cars!
Awards
Trophies, plaques, hats, shirts and other prizes will be given out after the event during the Awards Ceremony on Sunday afternoon. The top three places in each class(nine classes total) receive plaques and get their pictures taken with Modified Magazine.
Driver's Instruction is offered at the last event for $40 and I'm sure it will be offered here as well. It is not required but is available if anyone wants it.
More information about the Redlne Time Attack can be found on their site- http://www.redlinetimeattack.com
Hope to see you guys out there! Tell your friends, tell your friends' friends! Let's make the west coast envy the east!

Too bad Summit point is a dump! Really, it probably has the worst paddock plus, the facilities bite. Everytime I go to take a **** I tell myself this is the last time.
With all the money Bill just dropped on his new track, you'd think he'd spend a little upgrading the current facilities first. Thank god he replaced the tech shed. The old one was about to fall over. That place could be great...maybe I should run that ****. Moreover, the main track needs to be resurfaced like 5 years ago

You could run the SCCA Time Trial on Jefferson Course 5/27-28 for less than half of what the price was to run at the Redline BeavRun event.
The Jefferson is a fun course and last year was in better repair than the Main course, and they have nice facilities and paddock area.

I'll agree that the main course could use some fresh asphalt but we're not talking about that, we're talking the Shenandoah Circuit!

Werd.
I would have prefered they use the money to upgrade the facilities and the surface of the main circuit, or even extend it a bit rather than stuffing the SC in there. They actually used to host an IMSA race there... it would be nice to see it fixed up.
Pat, your car running yet?

Hey Pete! Yeah the car is running, but has some issues I'm trying to work out. It should be all ready in two weeks- it's going to Mitch for some work, then Bret for a once over, then up to PFS for a tune! Soon the beast will be ready!!
Yo did you sign up for the Chin motorsports event? DO it! It's well worth the money.

I couldn't do the one at the Glen... everything at the Glen this year is the bloody middle of the week. I might try and run the VIR July 4th weekend. I'm running Seat Time on thursday.

I know. The Shenandoah is the course that has concrete walls and no run off area in several places when I walked it last year along with the Karosel (sp?) turn that most orginizations won't even run because you can really get into trouble if you go high.
To each his own, but I didn't like the looks of the course, and it is a expensive weekend.
>>>It gets old after three laps.
Your not going fast enough or you have only driven it in one direction.

I like Shenandoah. It has grown to be my favorite track. They have improved things from when they first opened it, and granted there are some issues. I probably would not like wheel-2-wheel racing there, but for any sort of school/open track type event it is great.
I admit that my opinion might change if my car was faster, as it is less friendly to higher speeds in many of those locations... But from where I sit, it is the most challenging and hard to get right track I have driven. If the thing you want out of open tracking is just high speeds, go elsewhere. But if it is the driving challenge that you appreciate, it is hard to beat Shenandoah.
Just my opinon, everyone is entitled to a different one.

If they changed / added run off areas and put some tires walls up, then I may reconsider. I'm not a high speed junkie, I like a challenging track that makes you use both handleing and power to make it work.
I'll check out the Shenandoah in 2 weeks when I go out to Summit to see if they improved it. Maybe I'll change my mind...

Ok at least come out and see what we have to offer and spectate. I am expanding the series next year to larger venues such as homestead running the pro road race circuit config. We are also waiting for dates to be confirmed for Charlotte and Mid Ohio. We added a car show and more media and manufacturer booths as well as started our contingency sponsorship program. Shennendoah wasnt my first choice but the track had no main course dates. I wanted to do an event in my home area for a change. Thanks for talking about it
