tried to get rx8 peeps to meet here in pitt but it's always no show. hopefully fd's are a different story.

mine's also packed away for the winter, so next spring or summer would work for me.

Hey Guys,

Dale from the West Penn RX7 Club here. Sorry I don't have much time to monitor forums... one of the other members clued me in on this thread, so I thought I'd jump in and post something. Actually, we are now the Est Penn Mazda Club and are welcoming all Mazda enthusiasts, but the core of the bunch are are still rotary enthusiasts. It's true that we have a lot of older members, but that's not a bad thing. In fact, we're missing all the younger members. For some reason, THEY are the inactive ones. Our youngest member is 16 and I've never met him. So why don't you "youngsters" show me a thing or two and prove that you can actively partake in a real club? You think you know a lot about rotaries? I'll bet our "older" members can teach you a few tricks, I'm sure. But this shouldn't be about age... it should be about the passion for all things automotive, whether it's racing (my favorite), drifting, autocrossing, time trials, hillclimbs, car shows, car cruises, scenic drives, etc. it doesn't matter. We have members that do all of those things. Our club thrives on member involvement, which mainly seems to come from older members. Why can't the younger memebrs get involved? They join, but then never show up. I was around 23 when I started the club and I'm still going (at 38). Not old enough to be your dad, but young enough to beat any of you at a race :-) Come on and join the club and show up for a meeting or event. Our annual winter banquet is in jeopardy becasue it's always the same people doing the same thing... we need more enthusiastic members who will actively be involved to help keep things going. Heck, you get more than your $10's worth just by attending the banquet (last year, everybody received a 1/43 scale diecast RX-8 valued at $20). I can't vow to follow-up on this thread, but please feel free to join our group on Yahoo and liven things up there! Thanks!

some link would be great.

east penn? where at usually? i rather not travel too far unless the road is friendly to my lowered suspension with an overhung body kit. it doesnt look as bad as it sounds.

i know there's some race going on at schenley park in the summer. maybe we can have a meet there. well just a thought.

Lemme pitch in a little on this too...

Here's a link to the club site where you can look at pictures of old guys and their cars like me, or just get more info:

http://www.westpennrx7club.com/

I've been a member of that club for a few years myself and used to be more active. Now I live 4 hours away in Maryland so I don't make it to as many meetings/events, but I really miss it. I met lots of cool people, got lots of information that I never knew about the cars, help with mechanical issues, found people to trade parts with, etc. I never would have kept my 7 for 11 years if I hadn't joined the club.

I think Dale meant to type "West Penn Mazda Club," not "Est Penn." The summer meetings are often at North Park and fall/winter meetings have various locations so you should check the site and/or mail from the yahoo group. There is usually a showing at the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix in July as well.

I definitely would recommend giving them a try.

Typo... it's the "West Penn Mazda Club". How can I edit my post if I don't see an "Edit" button? According to the "Postin Rules", I should be able to edit my own posts.

Umm, stickmantijuana... I'm not sure your link was working when you viewed the site. Of the 25 member photos, there are two which show couples. A third shows a father and son. The other 23 are single people.

Dale, I think you can only edit your post as long as nobody's replied to it yet.

I think mostl RX-8s are still under waranty, so I'd stick with taking it to the dealer. If out of waranty and in need of rotary engine-related work, try Emage Performance in Washington, PA. There's a place north of Pittsburgh run by a former member (Jesse Parker), but I don't know the name of it. if you don't need rotary-related repairs, see Ed Yeago Auto Service on Route * in Allison Park. he discoutns labor rates for members.

The reason you see so many couples under the event photos is becasue they are the ones who usually show up at picnics (with family). may you and others can change that? I don't really care... the more the merrier!

Hi guys,
I have to say I am one of the old farts in the West Penn RX7 club. Both of my sons are involved however and would be more your age to share ideas with. My first seven was an SA that I kept for 24 years and now I have an FD and both son's have a 13b FB. We would like to welcome you to the club and would love to see your cars. The age dosen't matter - it's that you love the seven that counts. The club is full of guys who restore, modify, race, or just drive their sevens and prefer them over anything else. The club offers a group of enthusiasts, events, a large pool of knowledge, as well as discounts for the many parts and services we need ( or think we do). Come out to a meeting and see what the club is about.
