That looks like a nice place, but you have to deal with reservations and it will cost money on top of food. I don't think the guys from the philly area would pick out somewhere in which we would all be in danger. And it will be a large group of people with our cars easily within view.

So personally I still like FDR.

And Amp, you better bring the CYM :)

rxrotary2_7 04-08-04 10:53 AM

what is not safe about FDR? what *smells* there?...
there are going to be a lot of pissed off people who are buying the new houses being built that are going for 300K + right across the street with this news flash...

HotWheel 04-08-04 11:04 AM

Smells

When you are heading south on I-95 towards the Airport you will pass FDR on your Right and the NAVY
yard is on the left you go over that bridge and just as you are coming to the crest and on your way down
you can smell the swamp and the sewage treatment plant and that wonderfull free mulch that they treat the
crap with !

So , FDR is on the other side of the swamp(were Jimmy
Hoffa is ) and with the right wind SUUUUWEEEEE!

I'ts such a lovly smell When your going on a flight out of Phila and coming home the first thing you smell !

Hope this helps !

moehler 04-08-04 11:33 AM

I'm affraid people are going to get the wrong impression here... please go to the park one of these days to verify for yourself that it does NOT smell, it's many miles from the area your talking about (the airport and the navy yards). Trust me... I've been to this park many times. Please don't give the people who don't know the impression that the park is garbage... it's not, it's very nice.

This sounds like you haven't even been to the park. So why are you complaining? I'm new to the Philly area, but I trust these guys that the park is just fine.

Why don't we all just stop arguing about the park. We can meet there this time and if you still don't like it then maybe we can meet somewhere else next time.

I think that part of the reason for choosing this park is that it sounds like it is not unreasonably far for people coming from NJ. Whereas something farther out from the main part of Philly just adds to the drive that these guys are making, which I understand.

rdavidsrx7 04-08-04 05:30 PM

I'll be there, if it smells that bad we can just leave our cars running, that will dispearse any foul smell and replace it with the sweet smell of rotary exhaust...uuuhhh...aaaahhh...cough, cough, gasp!
But seriously, I know the smell and the plant you are refering too, I have never smelled it from theother side of the bridge and have been to plenty of game at the once great Vet. Stadium, and never caught a whiff. It will be fine, if not we can take a quick trip down 95 to Ridley Park, I think that is only like 15-20 mins isnt it? Someone more local know for sure. Though that could complicate things more.
just my 2cents, cause I know at the rx7/8 meet we talked about makin that the next meet point, and it is a beatiful park... but you may have to reserve space to park
Bob

rxrotary2_7 04-08-04 06:14 PM

i have spent almost every day of the past 4 or 5 years of my life within 50 yeards of the park and can assure you i have never caught a whif.... if we go to that other place mentioned, maybe we will get limes disease. looks like a lot of woods... ;)

Touring FD3S 04-08-04 09:22 PM

Just in case anyone is wondering how large this will be, the RX8 guys are in. I spoke with Wayne and he was kind enough to move his meet to our date and our location. So this should be quite a large meet.

I can't wait!

Man, lyme disease is underated, i can't wait to get it again, J/K. I'm down for which ever just makin a suggestion and bringin up the previous statement made at the other metting. See ya all there.

rxrotary2_7 04-09-04 06:39 AM

also, just so you know... the only event is at the Spectrum that day. (23rd) its a kids show dragon tales that never draws more than 2,000 atendance. http://www.comcast-spectacor.com/cal...sp?mm=5/1/2004
BUT there is a Phillies day game at 1:35PM http://philadelphia.phillies.mlb.com...phi&m=5&y=2004
the good part is that there will not be 3 events going on like a phillies, phantoms, and Soul game.... so overflow of parking will not end up in the park. there is plenty of parking to accomodate everyone in the lots for a baseball game and a kids show.... i will talk to the guy Gary M. who is the head of parking to allow anyone into FDR that day because they sometimes do set up a pay to park entrance into FDR. but like i said, there should absolutly not be any overflow into the park.

nickpapagiorgio 04-09-04 10:16 AM

FDR Park sounds good to me.

dillera 04-09-04 09:32 PM

I'm there, it sounds like fun.

Any other RX7 owners around here in West Philly?

moehler 04-10-04 11:33 AM

No, I've got a red FD, but its garaged now and I don't drive it that often.

I've seen the black FD also, I have no idea who it is though.

Off topic but did you paint your car?

rxrotary2_7 04-13-04 02:21 PM

Ricky, i got your email. i will call you later tonight.

Ocelot 04-13-04 02:30 PM

Any of you who plan on attending this meet that are from anywhere in Jersey, click the link below to get to the caravan thread. Not sure how its going to work out so far, but i'm making a map of peoples zip codes to see where everyone is coming from so we can all head out together and get some nice highway footage. Here's what we have so far:

i think FDR would be real cool. its a little hard to pull into there though with a lowered car , the entrance i'm thinking of.

Silver7 04-13-04 04:19 PM

Hey Ricky! It looks as though I should be able to make this event. It's definitely been a while since I've been to a meet. If the 7 is not able to attend then I will bring the 8. Who knows, maybe I'll drag Jose along. What time have you decided to get things started?

Josh

Senseny 04-13-04 05:09 PM

Just a suggestion, maybe avoid arrival time for the Phillies game that day. Maybe a later start time than we would usually do.

Ocelot 04-13-04 07:50 PM

What time do they arrive?

Senseny 04-13-04 08:02 PM

Since the game starts at 1:35, and traffic is sometimes rough into the first or second inning, I would suggest something like 2:30 or 3:00 as a start time. Just my opinion, if anyone disagrees please give suggestions. I just don't feel like getting stuck in that traffic.

Touring FD3S 04-13-04 09:21 PM

Here is my opinion based on my experience with going down to Phillies games. If we start early, it would have to be around 11. There is generally smooth flowing traffic from then until at least 11:30, but after that is starts getting a little backed up. As Senseny said, if we do it after, we are looking at around 2:30. I am personally fine with either times, so if anyone has any suggestions feel free to reply.

Otherwise, I am thinking 2:30 so I don't have to get up early on an off day.

Senseny 04-13-04 10:33 PM

Touring, thats why I didn't even suggest early (plus I have a roller hockey league with games between 11 and 1).

jfxp 04-13-04 10:46 PM

count me in for this meet :)

Silver7 04-14-04 01:58 PM

I think we should do it later in the day. The earliest I could get there is around noon and that means I will be caught up in all the traffic.

I agree, don't feel like leaving my house at like 8:00 a.m on a sunday.. :)

yallgotboost 04-14-04 04:16 PM

i say FDR 2:30 on the 23rd

Touring FD3S 04-14-04 05:19 PM

I think 2:30 is a good time. After talking to Wayne and a couple others, that looks to be the best. So, this is what we have....

When: May 23, 2004
Where: FDR Park, Philly
Start: 2:30-3:00pm arrival
End:When we are done
Food:Still working on that :p:

I am still trying to get in touch with Keith regarding food, so check back in. If you need directions, I posted some a couple pages back. Guys from my area, I will PM each of you about a caravan instead of starting another thread like the NJ guys :p:

Won't be long now....

black99 04-14-04 06:02 PM

Ok so what are the details? :D

rxrotary2_7 04-15-04 05:09 AM

time sounds good to me. i think you guys are making the traffic out to be worse than it will be. with only one event (dragon tales doesnt even count as an event. ) going on... the traffic will be minimal.
2 things...
1st. does anyone have an idea of about how many people will be attending including the 8's? i need to figure the food needs.
here are the things i am planning on bringing food wise:
hamburgers, ($40 for a case of 40 burgers)
hotdogs. ($20 for a case of 72 doggies)
sausage. ($23 for 33 sausages)
burger rolls= $1.20 per dz
dog rolls= $.90 per dz
sausage rolls (hoagie rolls) = $2.50 per dz
5lb box of nachos= $4.50
also, i am going to need help with some things like charcoal and shit like that...

2nd.
while pulling out of the Wachovia Center leaving work yesterday i noticed a large orange temp. construction fence up in the park. i didnt feel like driving through the park to see what that was all about, but it got me worried. i will check it out today or tomorrow and see whats going on.... hopefully it wont be a problem. i will also stake out a place for us twords the back of the park and check to see about the parking and grill. (hopefully there is still one where i rember it last year. :D

black99 04-16-04 11:14 AM

Ricky, got your pm. Just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to write that up..

Touring FD3S 04-16-04 11:56 AM
