Engine Swap

Hey NH 7 owners lol I got a new idea for the 7 and I have pretty much all I need to do it. I am thinking of doing a Nissan SR20DET swap on it. I love rotaries don't get me wrong I just want something a little more reliable and can perform as well along with that. and well the price for a rebuilt complete SR I am getting is hard to beat.

Let me know feed back lol not trying to win approval just wondered what you would all think

CrackHeadMel 12-09-07 01:38 PM

Idea's on wher to get syncro's? i checked mazdamotorsports, hwoever the only thing they had listed was not cheap at all, $100+ each, any other options?

BOOOOOOO!! NOOOO

why ever would you do that?

Stick with the rotary, what do you need? what are you goals? whats your budget?

SleepeR1st 12-09-07 01:47 PM

Max's Silvia owner friend (always forget his name) would love you Tim. Rotor heads will always be rotor heads, but if you found something cheaper, easier, and seems more practical to you then do it. You got my support (even though there wont be a 1.3 in there :P) :icon_tup:

grade247 12-09-07 02:13 PM

I need everything for the TII swap and well I am getting a fully rebuilt SR20 with wiring ecu and tranny I got a entire 91 rear subframe out of a 91 S13 coupe and I have a guy to do the fab work for the rear end and front subframe and engine mounts as well with wiring. I am getting all this and labor for a whopping $500 so I can't beat that with a 13bt especially when he has built SR20's over 600+hp and daily drives them. I am all about being unique and well I will save the big 13b or 20b for an FD later on. I like this swap because at least it is not the generic LS swap and it keeps a JDM engine.

and thanks for the support SLEEPER I will post pics on it all when it gets underway.

no worries I will ALWAYS be a rotorhead at heart

CrackHeadMel 12-09-07 02:31 PM

your going to use a nisasn tranny as well then correct? do you already have a t2 tranny? im always looking for one :D

TEZTnTUNE 12-09-07 02:42 PM

hey crack try a transmission specialty shop there are local ones all over NH. tell them u need a rebuild kit for your tranny. its what i used to do for the honda idiots

TEZTnTUNE 12-09-07 02:43 PM

rotaman the engine was broken in properly . the egine has 656 miles on the break in i was running it rich during this period than brought it to dyno i was running 18lbs of boots pig rich for a bit. while it was rich started some what ok , as we lean it out we began having issues at start up now running pretty lean also running 25lbs of boost and this bitch wont start up unless u push start it or poor oil down the intake , indicating poor seal . now its to damm cold to pull this bitch out. so ill wait till spring to do so. but like i mentioned ill go with either oem or hurleys. only issue with oem its that they are to brittle and hurleys the life of them its not that long before they start allowing blow by. any how ill decide later on on what to do.

grade247 12-10-07 03:18 AM

my buddy james he has a 180sx with 850hp now but not done his build and a few 240's with SR's lol he is an SR fanatic and he does amazing fab work and knows his stuff

grade247 12-10-07 03:32 AM

oh yes and BTW the 180 is putting out 800+ because it has a custom built TT for the SR (cant buy this setup) on it I will have to get some pics of it and show you looks crazy

Silvia swap

Make sure you document the swap. I'm looking for ways to improve my FC. It's amazing how many people will trash your idea without any base of knowledge. Have you measured this swap out? The only pictures of a four cylinder into a 7 I have seen is some guy who has put an Honda S2000 engine into his FC. It required a lot of firewall cutting. I'm not sure whether it was the length or height of the engine that required it. Because a V engine has the cylinders on a slant, it's not as tall.

Anyway, good luck, take lots of pictures and keep your receipts. The more information we have on these types of things, the better.

Doug

I think someone already did an sr20 fc, also theres the 4g63 fc aswelll

5-Port-Hank 12-10-07 08:22 PM

What about a 3SGTE? Everyone knows what an SR20 is, try a Toyota for a change up.

Or a 4AGE Silvertop 20v with ITBs...

Why did I have to get the evil post number for this one?

Well I would but all the guys I work with are 240 guys and have spares up the ying yang so I want to go with that and well the SR is a tryed and true motor puts out serious power and is in a small package and it damn reliable and I checked on this forum and I have not seen a SR swap just lots of talk about one. To make things more fun I am going to stroke it to some thing like 2.2L-2.4L we will see. I will document all work when I get it going and honestly I don't think there will be TOO much cutting on the firewall. I will let you know when we get going. We have to get the 240 that is the garage going then we can move mine in to get the fab work done on it.

boriqua51371 12-12-07 08:47 PM

there is one here his name is rotor vs piston he has a first gen with that engine his out of maryland. look up his name and u will see. and btw he did all the work himself.

Posted a link to a video about Santa being a queer and getting boned by one of his reindeer. The mods really did not like it. They love Santa!
