you built the car yourself, tune it yourself!

Were you not asking at some point for help with tuning? I did not per se build it, I bought a Pettit built motor and did a R & R with a few upgrades. I, personally, have no experience tuning so therefore I need someone who does.

I assume you are referring to Boriqua with this comment but not everyone has experience in all areas. I would like someone to teach me some tuning basics so I could do it myself.

foreing im thinking of doing same but so far what i read from ny/nj shops its not too good. so i have no clue what to do . the car i build my self no problems only issue im having is tunning with this microtech. i contacted a few shops in ny like t&R and j&r/ smokingjoeracing but man this guys charge way to much and when i read about them i see nothing but negative stuff.

Bor....I would not mind paying a fair price to get this car properly tuned and running, but I do not trust these shops up here since people really do not know anything about rotaries. Its too bad. A skilled mechanic in New England could make some serious dinero off this forum.

CrackHeadMel 09-09-07 06:34 PM

Hmm, i think that came off the wrong way, was just a suggestion mainly because im a big fan of doing it all yourself (if possible)

im always asking for help tuning, however have tuned my two setups myself, nobody else has every touched the settings, i just want suggestions sometimes because i still new to this too, only played with this for a few years

my comment was for boriqua, hope he doesnt take offence to it also, again i wasnt trying to be a prick

As for having someone teach you or show you the way, all ive done so far is read, read and read, and talked to a few people (max being one of them during the winter when hes around) online or in person about stragities, and what to do if somethings happening, and why its happening. The one big thing that i would tell you if you wanted to learn how to tune as i am trying to do that helped me the most, is

Try to understand why everything is happening, and why

for example

When im adjusting my fuel, or timming (which im expecialy scared of) i honestly picture what is happening, adding timming because i 'see' that adding timming will drop my egt's (as long as everytying else is in check among other things, dont just add timming cus you have high egts please..)

I dont think that its so much that this area lacks skilled rotary mechanics, it seems the problem is theres such a wide variety of technology for rotary cars alone, that having someone(s) that is capable and comfortable enough to work on all of the available technologies is just almost out of the question. untill this areas car scene rivles something like the west coast, were going to have to deal with having one guy that can do this, and another guy that can do that

tworotorguy 09-09-07 08:20 PM

i say well said to all the above. its a hard market around here. i built my motor alone, learning every step of the way, asking the right people plenty of questions. Although i have yet to get into the more intense tuning, i have definitly been paying close attention and learning all i can so i understand it completley. kudos to you guys that are so many steps ahead. i think it makes it more personalized...

sleepydave 09-09-07 11:01 PM

a turning point for me was about 6 years back when I realized that the people who get paid to do this had as much experience as I, yet cared less about my car than I.
ever since, I cringe at just the thought of having to take my car to a shop. rotary or not, this goes for any vehicle.
plus i had some good people lend me good advice over teh years, you just have to know who to listen to.

Dom_C 09-10-07 09:53 AM

I agree, I'm tuning my car right now as well with the microtech. It's not bad at all, you just need a wide band and some patients. It takes a while doing a street tune but it pays off in the end. Like everyone else i've asked a tone of questions, me and crackheadmel have had a few late drunken nights discussing various settings and such over the computer. good times. . haha

I guess I might have initially taken offence to it, but I thought about after posting and I figured this is what you meant. I kinda jumped the gun cause I am more than frustrated with the car and the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ I am spent on it and it ran great for a day, now back to the same old thing. Anyway, no worries and I will look at my mouth before sticking my shoe in.

As far as good mechanics and options, I am mainly speaking about FD's when I talk since this is mainly what I am working on and there are only a few choices in engine management for those now. Most people run Apexi's now because of the control one has with it. I just wish someone up here knew about these things to get my dollars on the road.

sleepydave, does your FC have a FC2000 frontend on it? only saw you once at the track in the pits, you looked busy so i decided against bothering you

sucks about the job, they will realize what they lost though

when you were with TDC you guys rented dynapack's from someone local didnt you? is that something you could get now? if we could get them, and i could convince my boss's to let us use our propery some non-race day, we could have a little dyno day / fix ur broken shit day

Dom_C 09-10-07 09:35 PM

that would be sick. I really need to do some dyno tuning. Tuning vac with the bridgeport is a bitch, i think a dyno would make it alot easier

Soon enough i will be sporting a black TII around the Candia/Hooksett/Manchester area. Just saw a red TII in front of West Highschool the other day in Manchester, can't wait to meet up with any of you!

PS: Here's my car :) http://img509.imageshack.us/my.php?i...gooo033jq8.jpg

Finally got a chance to look at it. Very nice. Looks exactly like the one I had in high school.

boriqua51371 09-10-07 10:41 PM

crack i hear you about doing things yourself , well i been a mechanic for 13yrs and i do all my work myself but like all of us we specialize in different things or become more acquanted with different thing . well i am not familiar with microtech or standalone tunning for that matter . i've yet to find good material from microtech or any other source for me to understand proper tunning our application. meaning rotary so with that said , thats why im looking for a tunner. trust me i dont want to spend the cash if i dont need too and i hate sourcing out when i can do myself but on this case is like stump the chump and im stump.

boriqua51371 09-10-07 10:42 PM

max hook me up with your number. maybe i can have u come up and look at this thing and work something out.

hello!

I am back and I finally got my FC. I was wondering if anyone on here has a motor for the passenger side head light mine is burnt out and if anyone has spring or some coilovers they could sell me the guy who owned it before the person I bought it from cut the springs. other then that she runs good and need an exhaust lol.

sleepydave 09-13-07 08:37 PM
