NEW! 2008 MazdaFest (Replacement for Rotorfest)
Hello Everyone,
I know that I have been lying low for a while but have a very good reason. I have seen the enthusiasm and anticipation for the new "Rotorfest" replacement event. I have been working on this behind the scenes and looking at the recommendations made by fellow members and by my closest advisors. I know this is a hotly debated topic; therefore I wanted to make sure its replacement is much bigger and better than the previous event. This is why I haven't been posting anything up until now that it has been confirmed and secured.
I am in the final stages for completing my agreement for the new event with Englishtown (www.racewaypark.com), just working out the minor details and logistics for the event, but we are BOOKED.
Therefore i am posting this to notify the rotary community that the event will be held on July 6th 2008 @ Englishtown Raceway along with this years 12th Annual Sport Compact Summer Slam. I have talked to the General Manager and Track manager and have secured a Mazda ONLY parking area where we can park all of our RX-7s, RX-8's and rotary powered machines. I have also extended the invitation to our fellow Mazda brothers with Mazda3's and Mazda6's and Mazdaspeed therefore the new name "Mazda Fest".
Specs
1. There will be a Rotary Car show; I am currently working out the specs with the track to coordinate how this event will be integrated into the schedule. Updates will follow.
2. There will be two prices according to Englishtown’s admission policies. A) Show, B) Show and GO which will allow you to DRAG RACE. I will NOT post any pricing until it has been confirmed by the track.
PLEASE NOTE: No one will be in charge of handling any of the fees, the fees will be set and collected by Englishtown Raceway park officials (No Voskoing here)
3. Now that NOPI/NHRA has merged I and the General Manager are trying to coordinate some of the rotary powered vehicles to be in our Mazda event. Updates will follow.
4. Food vendor on premises.
5. Bathrooms on premises.
"Summer Slam" has the following venues each year.
- Bikini Contest
- Import Car Show
- Low Rider Car Show
- Motorcycle Show
- Truck Show
- Hydraulic Contest
- Bracket Style and Heads up Drag Racing
Please note that I am posting this early to let people know that there will be an EVENT this year at a recognized and reputable race track. As more information becomes available I will post it up ASAP.
A final schedule will be developed in the months ahead so please stay tuned and check the website regularly for more updates at www.nyrotary.com. I will be coordinating my efforts with other fellow Mazda clubs from now until July.
I would like to say thank you to my committee for all your help, advice and support on this matter.

I'm glad you listened and realized that most people that were interested in this event wanted to see it take place at Englishtown.
My only concern is this: Many of the people that attended "Rotorfest" did so because it was solely a rotary event, with no other vehicles whatsoever to interfere. You go to a show, and see NOTHING but rotaries (except maybe a few LS1s ). Now that we're incorporating piston engines into the mix, people may just not feel the same about it.

We wil have our own area cordoned off for rotary vehicles ONLY, we wont be parked with anyone else but ourselves and our fellow enthusiasts.
Stop playing the devil advocate man!
EDIT: Well now other ppl can see how us rotarys get down! Let them know we mean business kid

I know thanks for pointing that out just thought it would come later in the discussion. Everyone knows im a DIE HARD ROTARY FAN and would love to keep it only rotary, but based on many recommendations of the location and joining into the biggest IMPORT event on the east coast i began thinking. If we are going to be there at Summerslam with pistons already why not atleast invite our fellow MAZDA brothers/sisters so this way we make it a family event. Mazda and THEM lol
So yeah i understand and would love to keep it strictly rotary but im also thinking ahead. If we do very well this year, or a few years down the line, whats to say that we cant have our OWN rotary only dedicated event with sponsors, and lots of other things that were not previously planned.
Please note that rotorfest was a parking lot made of grass with NO BENCHES or adequate facilities. This place has that and much more (bikini babes lol).
Also note that the things listed above will only expand, who says im DONE with the event im still working on getting sponsors, and some other things i dont want to mention yet until it has been secured, you understand right.
So there is more to come, this will have more amnemities than RF ever did!

It'd be neat if we could get our own section, I'd be happy with that. But, way to go on the initiative of getting an East Coast "Fest" back in order. Oh, and way to coin the term "Voskoing"

Hey guys i have been fighting myself on these same questions about ONLY rotary or mazda for quite some time. Based on everyone's recommendations on having it at a big track such as englishtown, which is a nice location if i might add, it is very costly around $10-$15k. So after reviewing the days available to rent the track it would most likely be on a weekday which i know many of us cannot do because we have lives/jobs that require our attendance. So the weekend is the preffered date since it works out for most of the rotary heads. After discussing this with my committee we decided to get this event off the ground even if its not totally ROTARY ONLY.
Therefore i began thinking if we are going to be in one of the most heavily populated import shows on the East Coast and be close to other piston vehicles why not at least be parked next to MAZDA cars. This is not a bad idea since the manager has offered me 1000 parking spaces for our venue. So after coming to terms with it i began to think of other ways to spice up the event.
I cant say what im working on but once im done with it you guys wont mind the location hehe. Please remember its January; the location is set, the event is in July so we still have a few months to sort all the details out.
Thanks for your comments and suggestions, they are always appreciated =)

It sounds good so far, and opening it up to other mazdas sounds like it will be a good idea. I should definitely be attending, but without the oil smoke cloud following my car this time
