MD Emissions ?

About 4 months ago i recieved a letter saying i need my emissions inspection. I replied to the letter saying i was getting my motor rebuilt(which i wasn't) and they haven't bothered me since. My question is, does not having your emissions done go on your MVA record? Will my registration get canceled or does the inspection fee just keep getting higher? I have a single turbo setup and i don't have any inside connections. What should i do? Thanx

A single turbo FD will pass emissions with the proper setup. Mine has passed 3 times so far

You need a stock cat (don't need precat)
Airpump off a corvette (search the forum) wired up to run only for a short burst when you need it at the test
1 gallon of denatured alcohol (home depot) dumped into 1/4 tank gas
15:1 AFR tuned map in vacuum

maryland inspections suck. i went with just a catback and failed the hydrocarbons, the limit was 1.0000 GPM and i had 1.8825 then i came back 2 months later with a 3" dp and gutted maincat and again i failed hydrocarbons but this time my reading was 7.6392 and the people had no idea why it was so much higher. it was pretty funny when i saw how high it was.

you will probably be fine for a while, however, if you get a ticket in the car they will probably put 2 and 2 together and call you out on it. i'm sure that they have given you an extension and you will receive another notification later on. if your car is lowered, they won't be able to do the tread mill test. if you have aftermarket rims, they won't be allowed to do the treadmill test. in either of these cases, there is the possibility that they may damage your car or not be able to fit the "blocks" around your rear wheel. this means that all they should do is an idle/sniffer test and check your gas cap.

best of luck

Your license will be suspended if you do not get your second notice taken care of, you might want to call and check out your status..and yes they add fines every day I believe until you get it done...

As long as you have a decent cat you should be able to pass. They will suspend your tags at some point. Just keep asking for VEIP extensions, as long as you have a good excuse they'll give it to you.

They suspend your registration....

Spend 450 dollars or... have someone write a receipt for 450 dollars that pertains to EFI/Fuel system/Engine rebuild/turbo rebuild/catalytic converter etc. It's the only legal way to pass emissions without smog equipment.

yea registration, not license,,,or you can know someone who will just pass it for you and give them a little fee, and I never have to worry about emissions again

I got a waiver for upgrading my fuel system =)
They gave me $150 credit for doing the work myself, so you may only need to "spend" $300. And only certain types of repairs count, they have a list, things like a new catback or anything not having to do with the emissions doesn't work.

Thanx for the info. I guess i'll have to do some coilovers and a cat since i don't know anyone around here for a hook-up(kind of new to MD). My suspension is all shot anyways. Damn these emissions. Every 2 years right?

Wait, so if i spend at least 450 on say getting an upgraded fuel system like a new fuel rail and injectors, which i need anyway, they would pass me? Would the equipment have to be stock or can it be aftermarket?

vkotis:

they cant do the treadmill test in the rain as well. so take it when its raining.

also, try taking it to the emissions station in Hyattsville, MD...

i had heard they let tons of things slide there, so thats where i went, and i fast-passed the treadmill test (stock cat and catback, no pre-cat) but smoke was pouring out front under my car because my rear engine seal leaks. the guy just made sure none leaked on the floor, asked me what it was, and let me go on my way.
