Not a bad side effect if you ask me

My friend Chuck is on his way to Lime Rock as I type this with his white 87 FC in tow. This is his first track day in a car,and he hopes to get the O.K. to run on saturday. If so I will probably go out there to watch him,or maybe even if he isn't running I may go out to spectate.I will most likely bring my 79 GS,and hopefully next year I will participate in some events. It has been probably 5-6 years since I ran with COM,and I do miss it.It is probably a 3.5-4 hr ride for me out there, but if it is a nice day I will look forward to taking the GS out for the last drive of the season.

He was haulin in that STi at LRP. 1:02:6 with just RA1's and race pads. The STi is moving down a class for next year. Hes going to clean up in that class. The Z06's are a bit much to compete against. Two of them were in the 59's. Only Greg Read in his Turner prepped and supercharged E36 M3 was faster than those Z06's that day.

We'll see... It may be too dangerous for me, depends on how many people I tick-off with my suggested car reclassifications for '07! ;-)

I've been lurking over there on the COM forums. You're really making a stink. Its tough to make a level playing feild. The FD moved down to SSGT with the STi and Evo. You can't have a different class for every car.

As far as I see it, it's the responsibility of the club members to pipe-up when they see inequities.

And therefore...what? We shouldn't try?

True, it is our responsibility to speak up if there are inequities, but as far as I see it, they've fixed one of the only ones I have seen. Big Mike in his 350Z cleaned up SSGT last year winning the class and over all drivers championship. There wasn't anything in his class that could touch him. Guys driving STi's (Raj, Suresh, Joe and Ryan) all moved to STGT just so they didn't have to compete against stock C5 Z06's. Now they've moved the STi (along with the FD and Evo) down to SSGT. We can only wait and see, but there should be a close battle in that class. That leaves the Z06's to battle it out with the real big boys (Vipers, Ferraris, 911TT's etc) and its clear that they don't have any trouble hanging with them.

My point with having a different class for every car is this; you can order a 911(996&997) in many flavors, from Carrera, CarreraS, Carrera4S, Turbo, GT2 to GT3. You can't have a class for every one of them. Same goes for the C5, C5Z06, C6 & C6Z06. You need to put a few of them in the same class or else you're creating classes and you'll have people winning classes by defalt due to lack of competition. You also can't put a stock road going car into SP or P. You can put the SSU monsters into STGT, but I don't see any with the new classifications.

I simply disagree. To simplify the discussion, just address this point I have made several times... a WRX modified to STi specs would be in SPB while the "stock" STi would be in SSGT. How do you reconcile that fact?

Please see my post on the COM forum. A bugeye 2.5rs modded to WRX spec would also be SPB. Then you'd have a stock WRX and a stock STi duking it out in SPB with roll cages, fire suits, and RE92 all seasons just because the base model is slow.
