FDs have a special place in my heart, I have waited a long time to be properly set to take on a project like this.
My philosphy is get what you want in the first place, and do it right, or else you just end up taking a big loss in the long run and having regrets.

well make sure you read the FAQ about buying an FD... you'll want to know everything you can before you buy... its best to really get out there and take a look at the car, make sure everything is right.

i have entertained the thought of an NA 3 rotor for like 3 years but i would just do it right and do large street/bridge port with a gt45 T6 hotside and all the cool goodies like that. i don't want big numbers, maybe like 800 hp reliably.. just mainly want good spool so that it is fun to drive. it would have to be all in house built of course. i think it would be a lot of fun to build and then drive once it was perfect. feed/amemiya body work and sick suspension setup, don't know what i will go with for that though since suspension technology is getting better all the time.

ive got to be honest with you, i think your better off looking for an FC... they're a ton simpler, a lot easier to work on and parts are FAR more easy to get your hands on...
considering the reported 202,027 FC's out there to the 13,879 FD produced in all three years of production in the US, the FC is by far a better choice when buying your first RX-7... mostly just ease in which parts are available, secondly working on an FC is MUCH easier than an FD, its much less complicated and the engine bay itself is much more accessible.

Any FC you find will be:
--Almost 20 years old if not OVER it.
--Have more miles on it than an FD will.
--Are still rotary engines.
--Have very weak transmissions.
And much more.

yeah cept if work needs to be done, its a **** load easier to do it yourself...
not to mention an FD might have less miles but theres a much better chance it had the **** beat out of it during those miles.

yeah i got turbo plans. got a to4b that needs a rebuild. need to make a mani ect.
fixed my rockers this week so all i have left for major body work is a 1/4 panel then my buddys dad is going to make it mint for me.
how is your turbo swap going.
about a 20b na. it would be much cheaper to just rebuild the motor and stay stock. i was talking to a bunch of 20b guys at the other site. the bassicaly said the cheapest that you have a 20b in a rx7 and running good is around 10k.
**** if you going to spend close to that much for the motor rebuilding ect ect ect, id just go with a 4 rotor carbed turbo. can be done for less money believe it or not. jeff20b is doing it right now on a 12a platform, just like the scoot 4 rotor. his is going to cost around 10k but thats because hes doing p port and a bunch of other mods.
i heard the TII tranny is spose to be the strongest of all the rx7 trannys?

the FD tranny can take 500 whp without a problem, but the 5th gear synchro has a tendency to go...
not sure about TII tranny's tho...
naw i scrapped the RHD conversion im in the process of getting the car up and running with a custom Non Sequential mod, and so on, aiming for 320 - 330 whp.

hey Ian, good to see you on. how is school? no plans in the near future except for school. once I'm out though, as the above post stated, 800 hp street/time attack monster. it's going to be sick, i'll put all the college education to good use! hey i might be visiting your school next weekend, I expect a party.

TII trannys lose 2nd gear at like 100k. Second gear is kinda important...
How is working on a FD yourself any different from working on an FC yourself?

less engine room space, much more complicated systems and then theres of course the rats nest to deal with.
well the 5th gear from the JDM FD is the way to go, steeper gearing for acceleration.

well, the fc has a rats nest too Gen, just not as many solenoids. I have owned both and would prefer to work on an fc anyday, it's 10 times easier than an fd. it's like comparing a muscle car to a lexus in terms of simplicity.

Awesome, my dog is white boxer, he plays and plays and won't stop until the other dog quits. Then he will sleep for two days straight.

Fc's seem much easier to work on the fd's and the fc tranny should only go if the car is beaten on (which most turbocharged rotary cars are). my fc had the original tranny and was at 113k with no issues. to me it depends on how it was treated by the people who own it before you. If anyone needs a turbo II tranny i have 2. one is supposedly perfect, and the other needs to be rebuilt.

sa and fb's can be a bitch to work on cause so much change within year to year. like when i made my ignition system for my car my coils started arcing out, all most killed yd gen. the reason is because in 81 they switched the color code for the dizy wires.
i still need to get rid of my rats nest. its not liek its doing any thing as is lol.
