The results are up:
http://www.ner.org/Solo/06/06schedule.htm
Look at novice non-stock. David posted the second fastest raw time and Rick the fourth fastest time. Then comes "indexing" and David ends up 7th and Rick 9th? I think I'm missing something here. How is that supposed to be fair? Every racer who finished in 2nd through 6th place was slower than David (and many slower than Rick).

Rick and David should have faster raw times than the other non-stock novices in slower classes. Slow times in slow classes (STS for example) may have a fast PAX compared to fast times in fast classes. SM2 is a very fast class and you need extrordinarily fast times to get a good PAX.

yea i noticed that we should have placed higher then we did. is it the times averaged out maybe? im not too worried about it. either way i had a great time. my car will be all set with the lug put on in time for Lime Rock on thursday. i called my mechanic and he said to just bring it down tomorrow. well i hope you guys have recovered from the heat. i got some kind of skin rash from it. i had to call in today and im gonna have to tomorrow . whatever, it was worth it. ill see you guys in July. ill look for my R comps on ebay so set the buy it now price low for me
#309
did you really get the rash too? i had to call out yesterday and today so that i didnt worsen it at work <i work in a warehouse and sweat like crazy>. did you go to a doctor? i did, and all he said was what i had. not how to treat it, no medicine. he just said 'oh, you have faliculitis' then walked out pretty much. i think I came in forth in Novice and seventh in SM2? i dont really know, but what i do know is that i dont have some umbrella girl handing me a trophy and taking a picture with me and i sure as hell am not getting doused in Arbor Mist, so i really dont care what place i came in. Christian, get better soon and i hope you had fun racing. Wish me luck with lime rock. EastcoastBumps, any helpful hints on this track? NASIOC gave me some good ones.

Kevin Foote has great notes over on NASIOC. His handle is kfoote, IIRC. I can't really tell you anything specific about that track that hasn't already been said in his threads.
Give the track the respect it deserves. There are two other things to remember that apply at any track event. CPR: Correct, Pause, Recover. If you find yourself in a sticky situation be sure to make small corrections. Then pause and let the car settle before doing anything else. Take a deep breath and recover. Secondly; In a spin, both feet in. If the tail is comming around get on the brakes and push in the clutch. The car will continue traveling in the direction you were going. Tracks are set up with run off and gravel to stop you before you hit anything. Trying to recover when the car is perpendicular to the direction of travel is hopeless and usually sends the car somewhere unpredictable (ie, a wall or another car). You should also pull your ABS fuse. 'In a spin, Two feet in' doesn't work very well when ABS is fighting you.
Tire pressures at the track are also very different compared to autocross. Mostly due to the amount of heat the tire absorbs. I'm sure Fritz Flynn or one of the other FD road racers has a thread about recomended pressures at the track.

A rash? Too bad. David went to the doctor on Monday and they said that he had pneumonia (sp?). He's missing his final exams (to be made up next week) because he has had a fever since last Wednesday (yes he raced with a fever on Sunday). Christian, sorry you left, the real fun started with the last two runs (where I kicked some @#$!).
Rick, you ended up 9th and David was 7th. The indexing (Pax) is tough because SM2 allows for very highly prepped and fast cars (which we aren't). In the end, it is all personal improvement. When mere tenths of seconds separate all of our times we are really pushing each other. Even the Pax has both you and David off of the first place time by mere seconds. The concensus is that you should stay in "novice non-stock".
As for Lime Rock, you will really enjoy it. I haven't raced it for at least 25 years. As I remember, it is a relatively flat track (i.e. no bank turns). You come out of the pits and you are on the main straight that leads into a right big bend curve that puts you into some "S" turns that lead out on to a straight (either the "back or no name straight") that leads to the bump uphill (watch your rpm's as you crest the hill) to another straight that takes you under the bridge, then downhill to a sweeping right hand turn that dumps you on to the main straight (then to the right hand big bend). This is of course, if they haven't changed it.
Have fun!!!!

Really good advice Pete. Rick, if you do go off track just ride it out. Do not try to fight it to get the car back on the track. A definite no no. Remember what I told you about guys rolling their cars. That's a perfect way to make it happen.
There is a big difference in driving style between auto-x and track racing. As Pete says, all inputs should be smooth. You have to get yourself into a calm state. If you're too hot into a turn and the car starts to go, just relax, make small changes in steering input, brakes, throttle until you bring the car back under control.
Walk the track if you can and try to understand the line. Pick out visual cues to where the apex(s) is (are) in the turns. When you run your first laps, coming down the hill and especially on the main straight, try to get a sense of when/where to start braking (there used to be red/white strips on the side of the track). Start out tentatively and gradually build up speed. You'll sense the cars limits soon enough. After a while you will start to fatigue so don't push yourself. Pit the car and take a break.
Let me know how it goes. Good luck, relax and have fun.

thanks guys. i truly appreciate the encouraging words and help. Pete, Kevin did send me a link to his tips, so what im going to do is a print a map of the track and print out his notes and use them as a reference, just so i know kind of what to look out for. i understand it could be completly different from what my car will feel like, but ill take my time for the first couple of hours to get used to the track. I will try to get an instructor tomorrow for as long as i can or until i am definatly used to the track. When you guys say control your RPM's into the crest of the hill, do you mean to upshift so im not revving as high or to just slow down?
Shawn, Christian- im still 'sick' from sunday. i havent gone to work yet, cause im afraid it will make things worse. tell david i hope he gets better soon, and if he did that well with pneumonia (sp*) on sunday, he should do awesome in July with full health! ill definatly have my work cut out for me in July again. My lesson learned from sunday was to put more confidence in the tires and car. i just let go on the last run of the day and pushed it as hard as i could and i took 1.6 seconds off, so if i remember this in July i should hopefully turn out better times.
Pete- is your car done and are you coming out to play July? if not we should set up a meet in central massachusetts at a convenient spot where we can roll your car somewhere so we can all check it out i cant wait to see it. im sure it will give me a new out look on LS- swaps. good luck with it.

lets set up a BBQ meet. any ideas on a date or location? Lake Qunisigamond Worcester has a big parking lot, but im not sure if theres a spot for a grill. any other ideas? my cars going to in for the flywheel and clutchdisc this weekend, so ill have it back by the begining of July. so anytime after that as long as its not on july 9th. lets get this going guys, see how many we can turn out. once we get this started, ill set it up with other clubs: RX-8, NASIOC, etc. the more people the better (sometimes)

BBQ meet is a great idea. Just have to find a convenient venue.
As for the hill, don't downshift, just hit it hard but let off the gas just as you feel the rear end get light so that you don't over-rev when the wheels literally come off of the ground. As soon as the rear end settles back down, get back on the gas. Your gonna have a blast.
