My engine's smoking pretty bad above 5K RPM. How much, how long (wait and downtime) go get my '88 NA rebuilt? I'll be on vacation the first 2 weeks of august - that'd be a great time for it to get worked on... Let me know!

Tofu,
I am back from overseas and hit up Dan's shop last night. I also have a 91 5speed NA ecu. I am about ready to part that 91 out and did not know of you needed the harness or computer. I know Dave is ready to buy a MS for a 89 vert so call me tonight and let me know.

To reduce downtime, bring me a core engine and I will rebiuld that . . . Call me and I'll tell you the price.

Sounds cool to me, we're out of MegaSquirts right now, and we are about to mail out the first ten. But the next batch should actually be slightly better (more refined) units. Thats why there is a price increase. How is your car doing? And, more importantly, how is Dave doing?

You have a bad VG30? Cause I'd like a good aluminum block and some pistons to make a coffee table.

Just use the block and crank out of any engine

They're all the same.

I have some spare blocks and cranks out of 13B engines . . .

Glad to see an active group in MD. This weekend, I'm picking up '85 GSL with a 13b recently rebuilt and a 12a in need of a rebuild (neither motor installed). The end goal is a track car that is street legal to drive to the track.

Current thinking is to put in the 13b to get it on the road (and through emissions) and have the 12a modified for the track. I have much research to do...

What's your budget.

I'm trying to get into Spec7 as it's low budget track racing.

In Spec7, you are allowed NO driveline modifications, so everyone has the same car. It all boils down to driver skill... I actually think that's the best.

Any ******* can cram cash into their car. It takes talent to actually drive it correctly.

That being said, "NO driveline modifications" means you keep the 12A.

some how I doubt he want's to part out a rebiult 13b

he could probably get a lot more for it just selling it as a whole.

Sigh, no one told me taking the fender off was such a bitch. I mean come on they cover up two bolts that you need to get too just to take it off sigh. Well I got it off after much much frustration and cursing lol. Though the car is still not running, at least i can get the outside looking somewhat better by fixing the dents.

Yeh, these fenders suck.

I hate them.
. . . .

Why are you taking off the fender to solve an engine problem?

Thanks for all of the comments. Prepare for dumb questions/answers from a rotary noob...

A "3 rotor swap" is a engine swap to a newer different 13B? If so, which engine so I can research it, although I have 2 engines that probably aren't worth 50% of the cost of what you're suggesting. The 13B is a 6-port, is bridge porting an option on it?

I suspect I'll have lots of spare parts if I can get some wrench assistance

At this point I'm just looking at open track days, so I'm not building to a class. I had an NSX on the track a couple times and loved it, but I was stressed the whole time watching the guard rails wizz by. I all about making the driver fast 1st, but 105-135hp is just not enough

The budget is "a few thousand dollars" and will be driven most by the bang for the buck. My experiance has been the 1st X addional hp are cheap, and after that you pay a fortune for small improvements.

It was rebuilt about 20k ago and isn't exactly whole right now. The prior owner was working on adding a turbo before he moved to another project and sold it to me. Right now it is on it's way to EFI or needs a carb.

New forum thread looking for input: https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/12a-13b-base-modification-548366/

Thanks again,
Todd
