Jason's gonna be helping you more with your install I think... I'm just going to help when there are problems. I've got my own car to megasquirt and a girlfriend to pay attention to....

New brand module or did you switch from 7 pin to 8 pin?
Same brand still 7 pin, but where the old one was meant for a remote-mounted coil, the new one was meant to be mounted very near the coil. I think that could be part of what made the tach signal more stable... the new module must be shielded better to deal with being right next to the coil.... where the old one wasn't shielded very well, and would start outputting a bumpy tach signal above 5000 rpms.

gah! not toast yet... wait till the gasket is replaced, and the fluids are back where they belong... if after that, you hear bad noises, "toast"

EDIT: Julian and I are gonna be putting the suspension on the hachi on saturday... so get your head gasket by then, and we can have a garage day at the house... well without the garage....

I don't know if I'd spend that much money on this engine if I were him. It had already run completely dry on oil once before, and now for a second time... I'm not sure that the bearings are going to be great... replacing the head gasket would be a stop-gap till he can afford a new engine

I hope it's the plug that stripped and not the housing....

That's no likely. Plug = Steel. Housing = Aluminium...

Things look grim.

DarkAngelKamui:

A friend of mine is looking to get a 240SX. (1989 SE model)

It's supposedly got a rebuilt KA24 and slushbox in it. He was looking at reselling the KA + tranny and getting a (m@d JDM y0) SR20 and manual.

If you want, I'll let you know about it.

As of, I haven't seen the car on a lift or under the hood. Only a walk around... So I won't say much about it until I see more.

Thanks for the lookout, but that'd be a downgrade for me... my 89 S13 has a KA24DE (S14 engine) in it as is, so either I find another like it or I just go the way of the SR20 as well...

/me still thinks replacing the head-gasket and actually HAVING a car to drive around while you save for the new engine is the best bet....

As do I, but i'm trying to weigh all the factors in on it as a whole... we still didn't narrow down where all the oil was going prior to this point, it did run bare for awhile, electrical issues, etc.

no matter what, it was running ok, the oil prolly went into the cooling system, which could be flushed... (although not OPTIMAL or even desirable, it would probably WORK)

even if it did run bare for a while, it was running OK after the last oil change... it'd probably be enough to hold you until you can get the new engine...

c'mon man, you have to save some money... and need transportation.

No, the name of the game is keep it cheep and easy. Headgasket + stock headbolts + assembly lube. In the relm of $50 or so, instead of $700 for full rebiuld and decking and new bolts and all (And with no gain whatsoever).

So yeh :p

I think i'll just borrow Jason's bike and hit the metro for a few weeks.... either that, or do some grandscale scheming to make enough for a new engine and ECU

Hmmm, not a bad idea at all...

Only problem would be finding a buyer base to sell to...
