Just finished some work on the 7.

changed oil, plugs, polished the FTP lenses, turn signals and put in some silver stars (they are completely white, i dunno wtf is up with my camera).

The lenses were completely opaque prior to polishing with some mothers plastic polish.

Take a look at these plugs, these plugs are from miles 1000-4000 after break in. 2500 of those miles were run with a 5000rpm hesitation and dirty injectors. the left side were the front rotor, and the right plugs are the rear rotor. Top plugs are leading, bottom are trailing.

I found that the SilverStars and XtraVision headlights are about equal. (My truck uses the 6024 rectangles, same as the FC.)

However, I've read that they overdrive the fillaments on the SilverStars to get that whiter tint and slightly more output. (I didn't notice.) This causes the lifespan to be significantly shorter...

Besides, the XtraVision's are cheaper by like 6 or so bucks...

I bought SilverStars, then decided to swap em out for the XtraVisions... BOTH were much better than the base Sylvania that was in there to begin with.

Remember, our Sylvania bulbs dont just blow out magically. They get dimmer with age. So it isnt like it was a fair comparison :p

I wonder how long the silverstars last . . .

According to the Sylvania site, 100 or 150 Hours... In comparison to like 300 hours for the Other types...

Don't quote me on that... Lemmie find a URL.. BRB.

Right... I'm off on my numbers..

SilverStar: http://www.sylvaniaautocatalog.com/s...%20ST,%20%20ST
Rated at 50 hours High beam

XTraVision:
http://www.sylvaniaautocatalog.com/s...%20XV,%20%20XV
Rated at 200 hours High beam

*Grumble* For some reason, their site doesn't render correctly on my Mac... I can't get teh Low beam spec... And because it's session based, you may need to click on "Spec" or "More Info" or something...

Why do you specify "Outside North America only" on the SilverStar bulbs?

Osram, the well-established German lampmaker, sells a line of automotive bulbs they call "SilverStar". These are Osram's top-of-the-range headlamp bulbs, equivalent to Philips VisionPlus and Tungsram Megalight Premium. They produce the maximum legal amount of light while staying within legal power consumption limits. They have clear glass.

Osram bought the well-established American lampmaker Sylvania in the early 1990s, so Osram is now Sylvania's parent company. Sylvania also sells a line of automotive bulbs they call "SilverStar", but it's not the same product at all. These bulbs have a blue coating on them. Light output is of legal levels, but as with all blue-filtered bulbs, you do not get more light from them. The Sylvania SilverStar bulbs have a very short lifetime, because the filament is selected so as to be overdriven. This is necessary because the blue filtration coating "steals" so much light that only an overdriven filament can push enough light through the filter to be legal. The Sylvania SilverStar bulbs are also priced quite high. This is not because they cost a lot to make, and not because they're based on some exotic new technology. It's because the goal with this product is to take market share away from other overpriced bulbs like the PIAA line.

BTW, Don't get me wrong.. I popped out the old headlights (Probably originals that came with the truck in 1989) and put in the SilverStars and it was like daytime in front of the truck.. I was like "GREAT! I can actually SEE now!" But I swapped the XTraVisions in and had the same effect...

I shoulda probably tried em side by side.

Hrm. The silverstars do NOT have a blue filter on my pair you can clearly see a blue filter on a bulb and it's not there. The light does not scatter as with a blue filtered bulb. The light is very white. Not blue. Perhaps this information has become out-dated?

on the s5 there are two 8mm nuts holding them in that you can remove from the back of the lense while the headlights are in the up position. It's easier to remove the plastic headlight surrounds when you do it.

Got the fender, but it was raining pretty hard, and Suds needed help with his ehxaust, so I'll get the door (Easy to do with the fender off) some other time.
