The problem is i don't know the size of the fittings. I'm guessing that the return lines are low pressure. If they are then I can do it. If you actually look at the part in real life, it's just an odd piece of design. I mean the whole goal is to cool the power steering fluid that comes out of the rack, so why didn't they think of a reservior with heatsink-like fins or something a little more clever than running a line that loops around and goes back onto itself in the front of the car were rocks and curbs could possibly hit it. It's not like it'll save the oil cooler. The pipe is probably 1/4" width.

You would think that the corner of the bend would start rusting .. nope. The rust section was an inch. What made the power steering fail was I have a safety-pin sized perfect hole dead center of all the rust. Not a slit or a crack .. a perfect safety-pin size hole. Apparently it's pretty quick letting all the PS fluid go too.

My car's officially dead (Or very close to dying ).....
80 higest on the front and 60 highest on the rear.....
Need to start thinking of a game plan, especially since I don't wanna be paying insurance for a car i'm not gonna get to drive for a long time....
There's two people I wanna talk to, and that'd be Doug to check out my body work to see if it's even fixable... and fong cuz I hear he can do rebuilds.... if any of you two read this, holla at cha boy, ya heard? lol, need to get a game plan rolling ASAP so I can start putting cash towards it.... if not, i'll just box it up for the winter and go back to worrying about getting my Honda back up and running (which probably will cost the same amount of cash to do an engine rebuild anyway....)

yf19.. where did you get the paint job done? and did they completely clean everything up before painting (down to bare metal everywhere + stripped interior)
tofuball: do you have any exhaust gaskets laying around anywhere? pecker boys and advance auto both said they "don't carry specialized exhaust gaskets" even when the exhaust isn't mazda but _generic_ ... if not, i'll just go with my fiber gasket material + exhaust putty gaskets.

My paintjob was done at Rod's Custom Auto off of route40.
Only certain parts of the car were stripped down to bare metal. Basically whatever needs the most attention, like rust spots or holes that you need to fill in (like from the rear emblems) or damage, they and most places will sand down to bare metal.
I can't really give you an example using my car because every panel had some type of damage to it. Say for Myk's primer car. Every panel is near perfect so all they would do is rough up the paint and start spraying. In reality, all you need is a rough surface for the first layer of paint to stick to. Afterwards more layers is better but more layers equals more money.
They didn't strip the interior.
If you want a paint job that you see on TV. The car is completely gutted, blasted, filled, sanded and repainted... that's easily a 8k+ job. The less work that is required is less money you have to pay, which is why maaco is dirt cheap. They won't even sand pieces down or anything. You bring in a hood and say paint it, they'll paint it. No questions asked. It'll look like crap or the paint will peel off .... oh you wanted to sand it down and primer and paint. Well that's not a 300$ maaco job, that's going to cost extra.
Metallic paint is more expensive then flat/normal - including metal flakes and stuff like that. Brighter colors (leaning to the red side of the spectrum) are more expensive then darker colors (leaning to the black side of the spectrum). "normal" everyday colors (like beige, blue, white, black) are cheaper then "odder" colors (like the 350Z burnt orange). You can cheat a little with paint. Rod was going to put a blue pearl coat on my car so if the light hits it the white will have a halo of blue to it. Jazzy yes. A little more money? sure. Fixing and repainting it if someone hits me .. yea no thanks.

Myk: mine cost a big chunk of dinero b/c i had the passenger side rocker panel almost completely caved in. I had more damage on that car then i knew what to do. Original paint was completely trash, faded and discolored, and 1/2 my hood was peeling. so really, mine was more damage repair then paint. i don't know what rod will charge if he had to paint your car.
most paint shops need to see the car before giving an estimate.
