at 3900-4000 that's where the 5th and 6th ports normally come on, and that's also AROUND where the secondary injectors usually come on. You could be hitting a lean spot there... I noticed on jasons's car at full-throttle, when the secondaries come on, there's about .2 seconds where it spikes lean before the extra fuel from the secondaries gets into the engine. I'm assuming at this point it's doing that because the aux ports aren't opening. yet...
In other news... I think I nailed the low-rev fast throttle blip problem. There's a bug in the firmware that only gets triggered when you have spark advance set close to the trigger angle (in my case, trigger is at 0 deg (TDC) and the bug triggers at advance of anything less than 3 it seems). I'm going to work around it by retarding the CAS by 5 degrees, and then setting everything in my advance table to whatever it is now +5. I found this problem by restricting the vacuum hose going to the MAP sensor, so when I rev, the part of the spark table that's causing the trouble never gets hit... and when I did that, the engine revved beautifully from idle (it revs very nice anyway above 1000 rpms).
If there's time after work today, we'll be getting jason's cold-start fast idle and megasquirt controlled idle speed working. So jason will be able to do things like turn on his AC without stalling the car. We'll also try to get his electric air-pump/aux-ports/VDI working. This is all of course if there's time...

i'll stick with true FreeBSD no matter what hardware the system really is. still trying to get damn X to work with my LCD monitor on my Ultra5. damn thing freezes the whole system with NO error message recorded to the log. works fine with CRT (and yes i made sure to change the display settings for the monitor to those for the LCD.

I'm actually going to buy a usb-serial adapter, and try to get MegaTunix working on my mac... so I can use my mac laptop to tune the megasquirt.... MegaTunix apparently has pretty OpenGL graphics for some of the real-time tuning screens.

Here's what the tuning screens in megatunix look like, they look similar to the windows MegaTune that I've been using on jason's car... but they're openGL, so I'd assume they update a lot faster:

I never did like the USB-Serial converters.
I'm also looking at porting Megatune to the Gameboy... I found an article in a magazine called "Nuts and Volts" about how to use the serial output of the GameBoy to control a scrolling LED dot matrix display...
It's synchronous, so it has a clock pin... And it's bidiredctional. Maybe pipe it into a buffer and through a PIC Microcontroller or something... Convert to RS232...
There's C compilers for the GameBoy, and flash cartridges available... And there's USB interfaces so that one can read and write to the flash cartridge...
Or maybe adapt a cartridge so that Megatune resides in onboard flash, and it'll have a CF or SD media slot...

Good luck on that, MegaTune is writtin in VB... not C... and relies heavily on Win32 being there... in other words... you pretty much can't do it.
You might however be able to write your own tuning software for gameboy.. but I'd much rather just use a laptop...
I only need the USB-serial adapter b/c my *nix laptop is really a mac running MacOS X.
This is what I want for a gameboy:

I was looking at the GB Scope too, but for that cost, I can probably get a dedicated portable scope.
Perhaps Megatunix... I dunno. Writing my own software shouldn't be THAT hard... (Yeah right... This coming from the guy who crashed the computers in High School CS class writing Tic-Tac-Toe...)

The GB scope will be like $250 said and done if you get an old used gameboy as the display.
I've never seen a portable oscilloscope that'll do what that gameboy one will for less than $1k... otherwise I would've bought it already.

Those are just the ones I have floating around in my head... I know there's more available. I'll have to go through the magazines and catalogs at work and see who sells others.
EDIT: I just realized, that the one from All Electronics is the same as the lower end Ramsey one... (Ramsey has two models available...)

My laptop vs my roommate's laptop are fairly comparable in the amount of time it takes to get **** done. I dunno... $1800 a year and a half ago didn't seem like such a bad deal.
