there's another problem with soldering. my dad = world's worst man when it comes to tools. meaning he has a few, but he's got no idea what he has, and it's all in a jumble. i don't bother trying to find ANYTHING in the piles of stuff, because most of it is disgustingly old and nasty/rusty at this point. i would need help from someone who's got at LEAST that...
bleh. i think i'm going to go guilt trip Derrick into helping *gags*

For anyone that cares, I'm a moron for misunderstanding what jason said to me about grounds on his car a while back.
A while back he told me that he used speaker wire to ground a buncha stuff to the battery, so I decided "hey, maybe I shouldn't use the stock ground wires in the harness for megasquirt, they're probably not connected to anything"
Well I tested those yesterday, and they're connected to something, and Jason says he has a buncha grounds hooked up to their stock locations on the engine. SOOOO I'm going to use the stock ground wires for the megasquirt, and test with that setup tomorrow. If all goes well, yay, if not I'm going to stop being lazy and just build my own grounds to someplace on the engine, and wire the megasquirt's grounds to that, and the sensor grounds to the megasquirt...
But yeah, falnfenix... wiring itself isn't that bad if you're careful... I only actually mis-connected two wires, for everything else, I connected things to the correct places (except the grounds of course, because of a misunderstanding)... and for the two that I misconnected, one was just keeping an ignition advance signal from getting to the ignition module... and the other was causing the fuel pump to stay on all the time instead of letting the megasquirt control it.
I'm bored.. so I'm going to keep typing... blahblahblablahblah (etc...)

yeah... don't go to crutchfeild... I would find some super cheapo place, then go to sounddomain and take advantage of there 105% price garuantee (or something like that) I did that with my subs, and I got subs that were $600 each for like $230 a peice or something

UMBC has a skydiving club. Not sure if they're still active. I would assume so. There was a russian kid that was part of the club and was in my programming class. He'd come into the lab totally hammered and then code his project in 30 minutes.
Crutchfield includes the wiring harness. The only things they don't give you, which I have no idea why, are those connectors. You would think that crutchfield is trying to be the 1-stop solution for the masses but they don't supply the connectors .. DUH.
Doing the rx7 was fun. The hardest part was that stupid amp that powers the front 2 speakers. And to compound the problem is that all the plastic connectors to and from the amp are old and nasty and surrounded by 20 year old rotting foam. I could have put a new amp in but it's loud enough for me so I opted out.
Oh and hooking up the headunit ... I connected everything and finally connected the power line and the thing came on and scared the crap out of me. I almost dropped it. I guess it unlocked the laser head or something. It was a pretty loud whirring sound then it stopped.
