random question to the speaker-knowledgeable folks in here...when changing from stock speakers to aftermarket, if i were to buy my speakers from Crutchfield(which includes everything i'd need) would i still need to solder wires together, or would i be good with the stuff that comes with their speakers?
i've never done a speaker install before, and i need to replace at least my front speakers, so i'm a little leary about it until i can figure out just what i am getting into...i WILL NOT pay someone to install them for me.

search http://www.cardomain.com/shop FIRST...they usually have FAR cheaper prices and roughly the same service quality level and also offer the wire adapters. ( i would still goto crutchfield for info and also home theater pieces)
second off....you got adapters for the wires...you still have to solder/crimp end connector them to the speaker but they give you an OEM wire clip for the speaker wire harness in yer car...no having to splice into the stock wires. this adds all of like 2-5 minutes to the install...if THAT (for BOTH speakers...not each).
in all ...you'll spend more time dismantling the panels to get TO the speaker than you will on setting up the new speakers.

Well how about ya do the custom dash.. with the vints already there??? so no more worrys about braking those lil things?..
Because small little details like that are very difficult. Ideal is something large and flat. Its easier to just cut a triangle out then cut some vents out. The easier it is the cheaper it is. I am not clear coating this thing and sanding down in between little vents. Its just not a good design idea. Live with the stock vents they cost 15 bucks and last forever if you don't try to take them out!!

here's my problem with the wiring thing...wiring skeezes me out. i don't like working with wiring, because i've found through other people's mistakes that it's too easy to mess up. if i just have to plug things together i'm fine, otherwise someone else will have to do it or i'll sit there and obsess over it forever.
yeah, i know i'm a douche, but i've always been leary around wiring problems. so much for trying to save money on installs from the big stores(unless someone's willing to help me out)

You don't need to solder speaker wire. Crimping does a fine job. And yes, most speakers come with speaker wire that you can usually crimp right into the stock wiring.... Unless your installing in an rx7, inwhich case you need to run all new speaker wire to all the speakers.

Remember... If at first you don't succeed. Skydiving is not your thing.
Speaking of which, anyone know of any skydiving places around here... I wanna jump out of a plane.
EDIT: BTW, I am offering to teach, ya know... Kind of a dick thing to do to talk about how easy it is to do and then not show how it's done.
Although, yeah... you don't need to solder to install speakers. I just hate crimping ****.

*snickers* but...it's so warm and inviting...
there's another problem with soldering. my dad = world's worst man when it comes to tools. meaning he has a few, but he's got no idea what he has, and it's all in a jumble. i don't bother trying to find ANYTHING in the piles of stuff, because most of it is disgustingly old and nasty/rusty at this point. i would need help from someone who's got at LEAST that...
bleh. i think i'm going to go guilt trip Derrick into helping *gags*
