I don't hesitate to make the trip out there, most of the work is handled by Dave these days, and I've never had a problem going out there. He's worked on both my cars, getting them into tip-top shape for the autox's and track days.

Only downside, which can also be looked as an upside, is that even when you're there, he just doesn't have the time to talk to you, since his work queue is ridiculously long. But when he does work on your car, he points out exactly what needs to be fixed and he's definitely the best on price when it comes to any of the shops around.

back from the dead, but the trip to KDR was well worth it and i wanted to add another plus on Dave's side. i finally made the trek out to KDR and Dave did a hell of a job on my car with a reliable tune. we were able to make 348.1rwhp (13psi) and 331rwhp (11psi) with good response on a conservative set up with room to go if we wanted to get risky. we were able to get 57whp more out of the car and he made almost 13whp out of an HKS ground kit set up. i am impressed and more then happy with what he did with my car and would highly recommend him. my only regret is that i didnt see him sooner.

he was well worth the 9 and a half hour round trip drive to Pennsylvania and i cant wait to make the trek back to bring it down to see what else we can do. he was a straight shooter, professional, and an all around good guy. really nice. i actually feel bad that i only paid him $150. it was the best money i spent in my build.

i read the first two pages and got fed up with all the **** talk...

judging from what ive read it seems like in the past he had some shitty works that did questionable work but he has cleaned it up... i dont know about that as ive only been using him for the past 2 years but he is TOP NOTCH in my books.

Prices are ridiculously fair. most mechanics you bring your car in with and estimate and come out with a bigger hole in your wallet. Ive gone to dave in the dark w/o estimates and he charged me a GREAT price. it also feels like other mechanics squeeze every nickle and dime they can get out of you while dave will offer/give you stuff w/o the charge/ assistance.

His work is awesome. Ive heard horror stories when shops would take customers cars in and tune it to their "desired" hp not caring what was done to their car or if the mods were able to support it.. on the other hand when i went to dave 2 weeks ago as soon as we pulled up and right before we did anything he took a look around EVERYTHING making sure he knew exactly was was in the car before he tuned it.

TUNING. from this thread im hearing mixed reviews.. but i cant complain with anything. i went in with 320whp asking him to leave with 350whp. in the matter of 20-30min (setting up, baseline dyno, first tweak) he pulled ~10whp, second pull another 10whp... he did manage to get me to 356whp with 100% injector duty so tuned it down. i left with 342Whp. more than satisfied

The drive is usually a hike for everyone but there are some nice twisties before the shop

Overall, dave is awesome. he set aside a saturday for me and 2 other friends to get dynos and tuned. that is the best feeling when you get your car in and out in the SAME day. dave is more like a friend with the rotary mechanic knowledge rather then a mechanic trying to take your money

Glad to hear Dave is still turning out top notch work. I've been meaning to stop by his shop and say Hi, maybe even make an appointment to get my FD on the dyno

+1 for Dave in my book...
Really cool guy...great knowledge and great prices..

I think the problem is,
Alot of rotary owners dont give there cars the proper care they deserve.. and then bring them to mechanics like dave or anyone hoping to fix everything in a few tweaks at a cheap price...

His shop is pretty far from me... but its a nice drive.. and i was well satisfied leaving from there

oh yeah thats another thing to add.. not to bag on other FD owners but there are tons of cars in the front of his shop that need a fixing and you can tell by the condition they are in that the owners did NOT maintain them very well... just to keep that in mind..

Dave is a great at working on rx7's. Took my S5 n/a to him last summer and had injectors, afc neo, and port inserts done. They tuned my motor and found the compression low and carbon build up on the rotor's.
Dyno ran it 10-12 times before finalizing the tuning. Cost for the runs....0 dollars. Dave was more concerned with figuring out the problem on my car. tps went out 3 months ago was causing an issue, drove up and he found the issue and didn't charge me because they thought it could be a loose wire on afc.
If you sit a talk to him you would know he was one of 12 mazda's head rotary mechanics in the usa from 88-95. Just thought i would let the people with any doubt in his ability know the back ground.
they are doing my t2 swap once i send the motor. Been to lot of different tuning shops in Md, hard to find someone who is honest. Quoted for t2 swap in Md--10,000/ from dave---800 installed. they told me I needed t2 rear and all this other stuff which sounded fishy. glad anytime to take my car to dave. trust him with my 7's life.

Well, hopefully I can get my motor broken in with enough time to get it tuned before it has to go back in storage. My brother gets to put most of the break in miles on it while I go to Ft. Drum and play medic for some MP's. I'm hoping to squeeze out around 350whp myself. Looks like this would be a great place to try this. I know a good place in upstate NY by me but they have no rotary experience. I'd prefer to go to a seasoned rotary tuner.

I was one of the first guys to take my car to Dave. He didn't even have a shop back then. Nobody can fix a 3rd gen like Dave.

It's been a while since I visited Dave....maybe it's because he rebuilt and installed my engine and parts. I'm going to have to make up an excuse to drop by the shop this summer.
