Javier Ortega To Leave Englishtown, Forms Ortega Global Solutions
Queens, N.Y. (May 31, 2007) – Javier Ortega, has resigned from his longtime position as Sport Compact Special Events Director at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, as of May 7, 2007. Since his resignation from Raceway Park, Ortega has established Ortega Global Solutions (OGS)--an event production, promotion and consulting company specializing in the Import/Sport Compact tuning industry. He will continue his position with NHRA as Executive Director of the NHRA Xplod Sport Compact Racing Series.
“The changes have been dramatic over the last decade. I’m leaving Raceway Park so that I can be a leader in the next phase of Sport Compact and the wide variety of events that can be conducted around the industry,“ Ortega said.
Ortega has been entrenched in the Import/Sport Compact tuning industry for over 20 years. His infatuation with the industry began back in the late 80’s when he scoured all of the enthusiast tuner magazines, following the trends, drivers and personalities who were strategic in growing the “Import and Sport Compact Scene”.
In 1992, Ortega noticed organized import drag events growing on the West Coast and began to urge Vincent Napp, owner of Raceway Park, to have an import event at Raceway Park. His passion for the Import Scene grew in the mid-90’s when Ortega opened one of the first import tuner shops on the East Coast, Drag Racing Technologies or DRT. DRT became the place to go to build a serious race car from the ground up for many years.
In early 1996, Napp approached Ortega and asked him to assist the track in creating, promoting and producing a series of import events at Raceway Park as the Sport Compact Special Events Director. Ortega’s immediate goal was to create import/urban events that would attract different fans—fans that the track had never before brought in.
Year after year, Ortega has created and produced some of Raceway Park’s largest events. Some of these very successful events include the Import & Low Rider Summer Sport Compact Slam, NHRA Sport Compact Springnationals and Fallnationals, Mitsubishi Day, EVO vs. WRX Day, Honda/Acura Day, Street Wars Series, Survival Series and many more. Ortega was instrumental in one of the largest and the most successful single-day events in the track’s history--the 2nd Annual Funkmaster Flex Celebrity Car Show in 2002--with more than 30,000 fans.
About his future plans, Ortega stated, “I have a long term business plan that will benefit all those who choose to utilize the expertise that Ortega Global Solutions has to offer. It’s now time to depart Raceway Park to pursue other professional, production, promotion and consulting goals within the industry. I have been considering this for quite some time and feel this is the opportune time. I am looking forward to this tremendous change and to the road ahead.”
OGS will work closely with tracks, venues and events nationwide to create the largest, most successful and profitable youth oriented tuner events in the nation. As consultants, OGS will be able to bring a wealth of promotion, production and event experience to new venues that have an interest in the ever increasing $5B Sport Compact tuner market. OGS will assist the venues with all aspects of event management by fine-tuning current events and/or creating new exciting events for this cutting edge market geared toward the younger demographic.
Joining Ortega at Ortega Global Solutions is Francis Mabutas, who will spearhead the Marketing and Business Development of OGS.
