bump for the Face-Off!
For those attending, please step up and participate, don't just watch. The scene needs more racers and less ricers.
For those who have never raced before, read paragraph 1. For cars running 13.00 seconds or slower, read paragraph 2. For cars running 12.99 or faster, read paragraph 3.
1) Purchase your race tech card at the front gate ($20). Tell the cashiers you want to race Test and Tune, not competition, since this is your first time. Test and Tune racing is open to all make/model vehicles. Listen for the track announcer to call for tech inspection and go where he says tech-in will be. The tech inspector will give you an info pamphlet that tells you what lane to stage up in.
2) For imports or sport compacts running 13.00 seconds or slower, purchase a COMPETITION class card at the front gate, not a test and tune tech card. Test and Tune is for the drag noobs or p*ssies too scared to compete. Competition race entry costs $30, only $10 more than test and tune, but you'll be competing for hundreds in cash payouts. Competition racers can still run test and tune between time trails and even between eliminations, just pull into one of the test and tune staging lanes any time of the day. During tech-in, the tech inspector will ask you which class you'll be racing in, pick either Bracket 14.99 and faster, or Bracket 15.00 and slower, which ever your car runs the 1/4 mile in. Bracket racing, or handicap racing, works as follows…Practice runs are made in order to get a feel for how fast the car/bike will run. For example: say you make three runs and they average 12.50 seconds. You may choose that as your dial in time and shoe polish that time on your window. You will be paired against another vehicle, faster or slower. The slower vehicle gets a head start determined by the dial in time. Say the other vehicle dials in at 13.00…he'll get a .50 second head start. The object is to beat your opponent to the finish line without going quicker than your dial in time. If you "break out", or go quicker than your dial in, you lose, unless your opponent breaks out worse than you, red-lights (goes before the light turns green), or crosses the center, divide line. Bracket racing pits driver against driver, with little regard for how fast the car or bike is.
3) For imports and sport compacts running 12.99 or faster, purchase a COMPETITION class tech card at the front gate, not a test and tune card. During tech-in, the tech inspector will ask you which class you'll be racing in, pick either of the HEADS UP classes, not Bracket. The bracket classes are for slower cars, so don't waste your fast car on a small payout. Pick one of the 3 heads up classes: FWD Quick 8, Street Quick 8, or All Motor Quick 4 (class regulations below). The heads up class entry fee costs the same as Bracket ($30), yet payouts are 5Xs higher than bracket and pay more places (1st to 4th in FWDQ8). Even if you don't qualify, you can still run one of the brackets, or unlimited TnT all day. You will most likely qualify though. The Ohio Import Face-Off heads up classes have not been full the past two years in a row. Win one round and you're "in the money".
