We are new to the forum. Nice to see there are other 7 folks out there and near by. You all might be able to help us get back on the road. Below is my post from the 1st gen forum.
Thanks,
Ilesha
I have a 1979 Limited RX7. It has been stored for the last few years, but ran, burning some oil, when parked. I am now ready to begin a complete original restoration of the car from the ground up.
My hope is to try to keep as much of the car original as possible. Is this a valid goal or a pie in the sky dream?
I do not have the time, space, tools or experience to attempt a rebuild of the engine myself and the local RX7 rebuilder said that the cost of attempting to rebuild mine would be better spent on a rebuilt engine from Mazda (without seeing the car).
I want to do what is right for the car, not necessarily the cheapest or easiest thing. In the world of restored RX7's is having the original engine an important thing?
Hopeful and anxious to drive again in VA
Thanks,
Ilesha

well your dream isnt out of reach, but its not going to be easy. There is a rotary rebuilder advertisement in my RX Tuner mag, and there prices are pretty decent. I dont know anyone who has had there motor done by them but ill ask around on the forum to see how they are. I'm not to sure about whats different between the 79, and the early 80's models except the licence plate mounting location is different. If you want to know about original options there are some threads under each generation RX-7 on what each year came with, and what options were available. Other than that Calvin is the first gen specialist around here.

Thanks, any info I can get would be great. I have the original window sticker and all maintenance records for the car so I have a good idea how it should be. I even have a color magazine ad for the Limited. It's my car, same paint job and everything. Only diff is mine has a stainless band across the roof and a stainless kick plate between the wheel wells. I am very excited about getting her back on the road.
My daughters graduation is next week, but as soon as we get through that I'll be off work and ready to get dirty.
