Hey everyone, in about a month I'll be returning from a six month deployment meaning the car has been sitting around for six months so I'd really like to get it tuned. Anyone know or run a good shop where I could get it done?
Also I'm considering getting it painted, anyone had their Seven painted locally and could give me a shop name or an idea of how much it costed them?

I have pulled the dash out of an S4 and it is a tough thing to do. If everything else is out I would go ahead and pull that too and consider running the down bars through the dash. But that is what I would do, not everyone.
You can get the dash out, It is quite a bit of work to get it out, but it is pretty straighforward. Just a bunch of screws and parts to remove.
Kenny, I have an S4 drivers window if that happens to help you.

damn jerry, you keep piling the work up haha. my RX-7 porjects have stopped for a bit. my dads clutch went out on his truck yesterday so were busy fixing that.
The maryland BBQ was pretty cool. I have some great pictures i'll post once i unload them from my moms camera. I have a few from my phone aswell, but they are mostly muscle cars haha. there was one really nice TII that had been restored. it was almost completely stock. reapolstered leather seats, nice paint job and clean interior. i have a few pics of that one. some nice FCs and FDs, but only one FB.

I have about seven RX-7s to work on, not including the strippers. I am also remodeling the house and submitted the plans for a future garage at the house. It was cheaper to keep mine than move. I want to live and have fun. Not to work for a mortgage. But regardless, I have been blessed with a good income.....I have to slow down on the Mazdas. Right now I have my an interest for a Porsche 911 very cheap. If I can't fix the engine, it will become rotary.....

Touch base with Jake about that, he has experience with building a rotary Porsches. There are a really nice turbo rotary powered 911 on ebay a while back. It was one of the ones with the wide rear fenders, whale tale, etc. It was originally a Carrera R or something, about a '75 I'd say that had a built engine from FD in it. Ended up going for something like $5500 or so as I recall.

Well, I wound up cutting the carpet rather than removing the dash - it was stained and dirty, and it wasn't worth the time. The good news is that the car is stripped and ready for the cage. I finally received the last bit of 2" sleeve material to reassemble the cage, and will do so tonight. Then I'll spray it with semi-gloss paint and think about installation (this weekend, perhaps?).
I was pretty amazed at how many interior pieces there were. There also seems to be a TON of sound insulation tar. I'm thinking I'll wait until winter and beat it with a hammer.
Does anyone have a favorite racing seat? I liked Shawn's Ultra-Shield Rally Sport - light and comfy, though I'll need a 15". Can you tell I'm stoked?

Speaking of Rim, do any of you guys know the place in Newport News that does the rim repair? I have a rim that it was recommended to me that I take it there, but I have forgotten the name of the place. They said id was in a bad part of NN, but the rims are unavailable and I have been unable to get a replacement, and it should be a fairly easy fix.

I always say go with the .125" seats as opposed to the thinner ones. Ultrashield is probably the least expensive for what you get. I think the Kirkey's have very similiar products, but their quality is just a little better. Here is a good overview of the Kirkey Seats:
http://www.kirkeyracing.com/seats.html
This is a drawing of one of their good ones:
http://www.kirkeyracing.com/images/s...43000shopd.gif
Several of their seats are double layerd metal in important areas. I think they are the best quality in the Budget seat lines. They have these fairly new containment lines of seats that I happen to like. These are similiar to the seat I used when I raced 25 years ago (fwiw, I made my own, guess I was ahead of my time).
If you step up to the middle price seats you are looking at Butler seats or some of those companies. They are typically a hundred or two more for each somewhat similiar seat, but they safer and better designed. This is the price range you can get into some of the "fully upholstered" seats like the Corbeau, Cobra, etc.
Then there are the more top of the line "regular" seats like Recaro, Sparco, etc. They are really nice, safe, well dsigned, and usually very lightweight. But the cost is going to be around $1k or so +- a few to a lot of hundred bucks.
Then the pro level seats. These usually start at about $1500 and go up to as much as you would like to spend. Expect part of the cost to be a plane ticket to the seat manufacturer to have yourself custom fitted. You might run into your favorite NASCAR, IRL or champ car driver there also getting fitted. Randy Lajoie started these types of seats, so I tend to suggest supporting his organization, but I don't exactly advise too many racers in this category :-).

Thanks calvin - I'm drawn to the Kirkey intermediate road race seat, though I've heard some people complain that you don't want the rib supports, as the rib cage is relatively fragile (I cracked one about 3 weeks ago myself - sneezes are some sort of satanic punishment). It looks like the ultrashield and the kirkey are extremely similar, so I'll keep both in mind. As usual, the budget is small
I am also biased to aluminum seats for some reason. I had an opportunity to pick up some Corbeau Forzas, but after sitting in a Kirkey 15" seat, the Forzas felt really loose.

hey pete, i bought my momo start racing seat from here. http://ltbmotorsports.com/racingseats.html but to be honest, the kirkey looks like it has much better support. the momo seats are FIA approved (one reason i went with mom, that and it was cheap.)

Not sure if any of you have seen this yet, but the SE region is having a meet/event on 7/7/07. I'll be going (since I'm the lead planner on this thing), so I was wondering if anyone would be interested in caravanning down there on the 6th. It's about an 8-hour trip.

We got delrin bushings!!! They just came in. Can't wait to get them installed. BTW, it looks like the driver's side of my car is a bit lower than the passenger side. Like about an inch. Could that be from a bad shock?
The bushing are from this group buy: https://www.rx7club.com/showpost.php...&postcount=778
turboren, not sure I can make a meet all the way in Savannah. But I guess it can't hurt to ask the wife...

Hey guys. I'm selling the turbo setup off my car. It's quite complete, and worked well on my car, but i no longer have the time or money to keep messing with the car, and really, the body isn't in that great of shape. I would prefer to sell local, so I'm just posting the link up here. I'm asking $2250, but like I said, it has everything you would need to turbocharge a 12a powered stock FB. So, let me know if you guys have any questions, call 757-650-3199 or email me at rowelljl@vcu.edu.
Thanks!

The rib supports on aluminum seats are designed to flex some and decelerate slowly. It is not a bad design and works pretty well. If you remember right I broke my ribs at AIK the first time I went there. I also have allergies that were in bloom when I broke my ribs. So you can imagine the pain that the sneezing was putting me through. It was a shot of pain that litterally would make me blackout occasionally.
