I had taken a job with a good friend of mine - a company comprised of jsut the two of us. Our goal was to build a customer base down here - there are hundreds of manufacturing facilities in the area.

I purchased the house Sep 30, but was back and forth for about two months. It was pretty much final around Halloween, when there were no beds left in the Yorktown house.

The cool part is that I'm closer to more tracks now than I was before. Road Atlanta is 1:45, Roebling Road is 3:30, VIR is 3:30, CMP is 1:45, and I'm still close enough to Sebring, Barber and a bunch of others to drive there if I wanted to.

We made a day trip to Road Atlanta yesterday - what a great venue. I drove Steph's Celica for touring laps, and bummed a ride in an instructor's 944T. The facilities are excellent, and the track has more blind turns than I've seen before.

Way off topic, but I'm looking to get a house soon. I'm trying to get one in an area that has a good school system (kids are 10 and 16). I know Hickory schools are great, but I don't know if I can afford to live there. Looking to spend less than $300k.

Times like these I wish I was still in SC...

Is there some way to quantitatively and objectively measure school performance?

In the Peninsula, Williamsburg, York County, and Newport News have the better school systems(probably in that order). On the Southside, I think VB has the best schools. For 300k, you should be able to get a decent amount of house/land, just depends on where you look.

RA is nothing compared to what it used to be. The filled in the "DIP" before the bridge. I can't describe what that used to be like, and it is so begnign now..... You have no concept. Turn 6-7 used to be so much more exciting before the rebuild of the track as well. If you like it now, I can't describe what it used to be like comparatively.

Thanks for the info, but I'm really looking more for school info.
I personally like Western Branch schools in Chesapeake. I graduated there in '76 (oh dayem is he that f***ing old???) and my daughters go there now. It is not perfect, but I think it is the best in the area..... IMHO....

Ok, guys, I have to apologize for not showing up Saturday. I had to work is the simple answer, but I also has about a hundred other things going on, none of which were good. Anyone want a useless wife, and a bunch of useless friends (outside of the RX7 community)..... and add to that a good friend passing away, and my dad having haeart surgery.... Sorry I was not there... it was the most stressful week in my life.....

Okay... that didn't work. Can anyone suggest an FD engine rebuilder that's local and reputable? You guys leave me no choice but to consider a Mazda remanufactured engine. And I know lots of O2 has been converted to CO2 talking about that topic.

Thanks for the school input folks. I will check into the areas you suggested. I work in NN right now, as my ship is there in the ship yard. The kids stay with their dad in Chesapeake, though, and I think the ship will eventually be heading to Norfolk. Gotta weigh that traffic through the tunnel into where I want to live, sadly...

I am at Summit Point with my friend Steve, who is racing his first gen. I'll upload some pictures when I get home. Things are going pretty well. We have to replace the brake master cylinder tomorrow, but otherwise things are great.

I got quotted there for $1300 for the bare minimum. Harmons quoted cheaper then that and they do all the work.
Your right I shouldnt ask around anywhere to get a little bit better deal. I thought perhaps someone on here does there own work and wouldnt mind a couple dollars for there own pocket.
