For anyone goingo to VIR tomorrow, I am leaving from the Hardees on RT 58 just past the end of the Suffolk Bypass (map):

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...,0.097075&om=1

I plan to leave there about 7:00AM I will wait longer if someone calls me and lets me know they are comming. The NC Mazda club is closing ragistration for the event at 3:00PM today (in about 2 hours) so if you officially want to be entered register here:

http://www.msccnc.org/events/rbq06/

Of course it is just a spectator race weekend, so you can buy a ticket to the races at the gate and meet up with everyone (you'll see where we are once you get into the infield of the race track). If you drive yourself directions are here:

http://www.virclub.com/vir/

They currently have 66 people registered and there will probably be a few more before it closes. So hope to see you there, it will be a fun event. It is a kid friendly event, and with your "entry fee" you get a free ticket to the races, free food (their club does a nice job of setting up a grill and making good stuff) and free lunch time parade laps (pretty quick parade laps too) on the race track, and some other stuff. It is a good deal.

Gas is gas is gas. The only thing different with name brand gas, is they have their own additives and detergents. I use the Redline injector cleaner stuff, and sometimes Lucas.

yoshi, even the additives and stuff, is still a marketing gimick, because all gas goes through the same pipelines it is made all the same, and only if they drop stuff in the big storage tanks, then it would have its own additives,(read very expensive infrastructure), but gas from farm fresh is the same as bp or anywhere else. the big differnce in price is the marketing costs more then anything else.

Ok, so Johny left it up to me..... The one of us that didn't come home with a trophy from the car show :-)

Dan and his wide brought the RX3 and we met to caravan out the the track. Dan had just done a bunch of mechanincal work on his car and apparently had not gotten the oil line to the front of the engine tight. Neither of us had a wrench that would tighten it, but my parents live on the way. So we stopped by Mom & Dad's and he tightened the loose fitting and all was good and well again. I did get the chance to show them the Shelby while there.

So we had out Rt58 and reach Brodnax and Dan's RX3 just quits running. Fuel pump is not working, but before finding a place to get a new one (in a small town probably without an auto parts store) we checked some other things. Turns out Dan had installed a new electric fan and it blew out the ignition fuse. Disconnect the fan and replace the fuse and we are back on the road. We get to the track about 11:00, get the tickets and go into the track.

Dan is impressed by the size of VIR. He didn't expect the place to be as big as it is. We find the Mazda club, get parked and do the usual socializing. Saw Johny. He had all 3 of this FC's there, so we checked out his new extremely low mileage 10AE. It still smells like a new car inside!!

The People, the racing, the food, the cars, the weather, etc, etc was all GREAT!!! Everyone twisted Dan's arm and talked him into entering the car show. Johny had entered Tiffany. Fat chance I was going to enter the car show.

The lunch time parade laps were better than usual. You could easily take sections of the track at pretty good speed. Dan seemed to have a good time!!!!

To make a long story short.... At then end of the day they announced the awards for the car show. For best Rotary, Dan got Third place. He was plesantly surprised with that. Johny got Best Rotary (sorry guys, I don't remember who was second, but I think it was the Montego Blue FD with the good stuff under the hood.

Then they announced the "People's Choice" for best in show... and the winner was Dan's RX3. Just remember, everyone had to urge Dan to enter the show.

It was a great day, the Mazda Sports Car Club of North Carolina
http://www.msccnc.org/forum
were great hosts, and put on a great event. You guys should have gone!!
