I'm running an Innovative LC-1 - about $200, and it seems to work fine with the MS. I still have to find time for tuning - the car runs and idles well. I need to tune cold starts and anything under load. Free time seems to be a premium lately. I'm going to look for a different way to operate the VDI and Aux ports so I can ditch the air pump and rat's nest. Weight is the enemy! I'll be removing the MOP once I fully transition to the MS.

The dyno didn't look too shabby with the stock ECU and some advance added in on the CAS, even though it went pig rich above 5300 and had some ignition breakup on top. I'm hoping the MS will add ~15% - add in a little port and polish for the intake, and we'll see.

I, too, am getting ready to paint the FC. I've decided to take it to Dale's Maaco once I get all of the decent parts on it. I just don't seem to have enough time to get intimate with a paint job. I'm missing a few things that would make the car more attractive:

S4 manual side mirror - Driver's side
S5 wing
S5 tails - not a priority, but an eventuality nonetheless

Pete,
FWIW, I have run my car for a while with the 6 ports fully open all the way. You might try that some time at the track. It takes 5 minutes to safety wire them like that and see the results. Someone told me that on an SE they made back to back comparisons and found the lap times significantly faster with them locked open.

I have a diagram for using one of the RPM switches that drag racers use for actuating the aux ports. It still requires the air pump, but does not require the exhaust hookup. He got the switch from Summit or Jegs, and it was not expensive and it was supposedly reliable.

Calvin,
I ran with removed aux ports and actuators when I first built the enigne, and it had NO bottom end and excellent top end. Although it sux for autocross, I can see that it would be beneficial for the track - I never see below 4k for more than a second or two at a time. As far as actuation, I've heard of people running very small electric air pumps from a vette or cadillac to make the ports operate. The MS has auxilliary outputs that are configurable for RPM, so I have no problem turning them on, just need to search a bit to find where/what to buy as far as pumps.

Other interesting plans: ITS suspension package, 4.3 rear w/torsen DROOOL

Cool, I didn't realize that the MS would do that too. I guess I should have thought about it actually and realized that I could do something like that.

I gotta break down and get one for my car and start upgrading stuff. I have an S4 and S5 intake, which everyone tells me is the main reason for differance in HP between the 84-5 SE and the FC's.

Also, Sudox_E, I have a pretty cool brake upgrade option for you, very affordably if you are interested sometime in the future (I actually have three different ones if you are interested). I can send you details if you like.

R wade has a wide band tester , hit him up . He is getting ready to look for a shop to open . Real good guy to know

Pretty new site, there's 10 registered users in the forum...

When's Wade gonna get that shop together?

Oh yeah, how do you get a stuck plastic rad drain plug out? Takes forever to flush out all the coolant from the block plug...

Calvin: Send me the details. I believe you mentioned the brakes before. If you had a way to easily throw FC rear calipers on my rear axle and keep my stock bolt pattern, I'd go for it. Why? My rear axle is missing calipers. I know I know, most of the braking is done with the front, buuuut, the front has what appears to be fairly new calipers, and I'm broke, and can't spend a dime on this car that I don't have to to make it reliable and safe at this point.

Who's R Wade? Is that his name on the forums? That would be amazing if I could hook up someone's wideband to my car and at least get an idea of where I stand on tuning (narrowband o2 sensors dont help much...)

Lastly, dbgeek when you say Dale's maaco, are you talking about someone on the forums (phooka is it)? Im not to connected with the local rx7 guys, but it would be nice to be able to get a cheap paintjob from someone you can trust.

Dale is a guy that autocrosses with us (just took over a position in ODR SCCA, again, actually). He happens to run the Maaco in Hampton:

MAACO OF HAMPTON

I was watching "Gone in 60 Seconds" tonite, the original 1974 low budget classic version, not the 2000 one with the Shelby clone. They had a major part of he chase that went through a Mazda delearship with a bunch of RX sedans and some REPU trucks on the lot. I always liked the old movie.

You guys are a ton of help. I'm getting the feeling that 5 years of messing around with this car might finally be wrapping up (as much as a project car ever does), and turning into a decent roadworthy car.

They are useful things. I do the same thing they do, just with homemade suff. I autocross with one of those "H" shaped things that hold kids car seats in place so that the belt is locked where I want it. I have done this since I got the '89 Mustang. The CG-lock is a much cleaner way of doing it, but they didn't exist back then.

it does work pretty good. a bit unconfortable for daily driving, but it holds solid. only thing i wish they made now is a lock for the shoulder strap. on left turns, thats where most of my weight is going so if the seatbelt doesnt lock on its own, i have to kind of hold myself in place haha.

on a side note, the cg-lock kind of makes me feel like im riding in my friends 65 mustang haha.

Hello All, long time no hear.

Renegade,
Good luck on that. There are a few things I hate of Hampton Chevy. One: Their body shop suck. I have taken two cars and they never finished it right. Two: I hate Jim Goslee, one of the service managers. He is lazy and never picks up the phone. I have seen this with my own eyes. Three: Prices are too high for their vehicles. I have heard of people buying new RX-8s for $26000.

Only thing I like from that dealership is the parts dept and some of the guys there.

Advance Auto and Pep Boys have the worst customer service. I hope you can change things for Advance on a good note.

I love my job. I hate Hampton and their schools. I think all the teacher staff in Hampton High School are illiterate. This area is getting too ghetto for me.

Jerry - That 1st gen over here in Va Bch is still for sale. But its does have a little rust around the back glass. I'm pretty sure thats the only rust on there and its runs OK. He only wants $500.
