to be more specific, the ignitor is basically a hall effect sensor that detects a change in magnetic field. when the stator (or is that reluctor? anyway, the vane thingies on the distributor shaft under the rotor) of the distributor passes the trigger point the ignitor send a signal to the ignition to spark. and voila you have fire. there are two ignitors, one for leading, one for trailing.

that's basically it in a nutshell.

Monty,

I got your message. I have an ignitor, and I can also test the old one to see if it is good or not. I keep a spare in the console of my car just in case. I have (knock on wood) never had one fail in my cars, but we had a bad one in my daughters car when we got it.

I have a couple J109's if you need them Calvin. With the TII motor I won't be needing them anymore.

Great!!! I'm glad you two like them and the three of you are doing well. I guess it really was a Merry Christmas!!!

For those out of the loop. My wife made a "Baby's 1st Christmas' ornament for Kenny, Kim and Kevin. She also made an ornament with an engine rotor on it!!! I plan on making more next year to give out!

hey guys itas been a while since i had a working internet so i havent been able to post or come to any meetings. if work schedule does not conflict, i will definantly see you guys in january. until then, i was wondering what was the most worthwhile mods everybody made to their cars. as of right now i have an 87 sport with these changes:
super streetport exhaust
mild ported intake
mso2 coated tII rotor housings
lightweight, high compression rotors

i was looking into koni yellows and ground control coilovers due to the massively sagging springs but also into buying a tII transmission because the car grinds into 2nd gear, even when double clutched. although there is also and occasional pulastion in idle, i figure i can do vacuum lines when i lean more about the car and where to put them, what size etc.
my future plans for the car are going to be in autox if that helps with suggestions.
any help would be greatly appreciated and merry christmas to everybody

As far as suspension goes, get Koni reds, and springs. Ground control seems to be pretty popular. You'll also want to get larger sway bars, and strut tower braces, both front and back. The single best upgrade you can do though is tires. Buy some sticky as crap tires.
