RI flywheel tool

i was in the middle of replacing the clutch on my 89 and i ran into a problem with the flywheel. it is a massive *** nut. does anyone in the rhode island/mass area have the tool to remove it or a socket that is 54mm or 2 1/8" big. if so would i be able to borrow it for a couple days.

Yah make sure that you borrow the flywheel stopper tool also makes the job more easier with that nut.

I picked up my flywheel cup in sears hardware and the stopper on ebay. I just check around and found out that Racingbeat sells both a flywheel stopper and nut wrench for $62.00 plus shipping. To bad your not closer I would let you borrow mines hell I would even give you a hand braking it down. Love working on rotaries especially vintage rotaries. Let me no if this helps you any?

I have a socket. I have never needed,or used a flywheel stopper. I live in southeastern MA(Carver to be exact),and I also have the Racing Beat/Mazdatrix pilot bearing removal tool if you need it. Let me know.

i had to use a 54mm socket and an impact gun from a diesel tech to get the nut off my 13B-RE block. ******* insanity.

torque is something like 330 ft lbs

I just use a impact wrench, and have never needed a stopper. The impact whacks it at such a high rate that it hardly turns.

Impact gun is the way to go. I tried useing a braker bar the fist time I broke one down. It took 2 guys to hold the engine and 2 with a with a pipe with the b bar and brute stength to get it off. Broke the first b bar had to go get another one and then it came off. What a pain in the *** that was never again.

i got off the nut with a breaker bar. it was hard but i got it, only to realize the flywheel was pressed on, so now im on the search for a puller.

No need for a puller. Just put the nut back on a few threads(so the flywheel doesn't fall on you),and get a BFH(big friggin hammer),and whack the outer edge of the flywheel. Don't hit the face,or the ring gear, but instead a flat portion of the outer edge, and it will rock the flywheel, and it will pop off. I have done it at least 20 times, and it works like a charm. A 2lb sledge works pretty good, but a regular framing hammer not so good. I wouldn't worry about hitting the face by accident if you are having the flywheel resurfaced, but if not make sure you don't hit the mating surface of the flywheel. Good luck, and let us know how you make out.
