FD Scams what a retard

So i was searching for RX-7s for sale on some new search engine called DOGPILE. this listing for a FD popped up on MSN. I looked at it and the car looks real good. The asking price for the FD was $3,900. Now already this sounds too good to be true. So i called the phone number on the listing. It was a 212 number so it had to be in Manhattan. When i called it was MERCER, not this dudes or dealers number.

So i sent the guy an email concerining the car and this is how it went: (MOst recent email on top, first email at the bottom)

I wrote some additional info about the deal because I received a lot of offers for this car and I want to select my buyer.

The car is located in San Martin, California but don't worry I will pay shipping to your house. I have to tell you that I recently moved to Birmingham, United Kingdom due to work and family. I lost my job and now the bank knocks at my door to pay the rate for the house I bought so I really need to sell the car fast to solve this issue.

The price is $3,900. As this is a large purchase I suggest using a third party to complete this purchase. For safety reasons I think that the most important thing, when we make a deal over the Internet, is both of us to have 100% protection in case of fraud or anything else.

I had the car listed on a couple of websites and I want to finalize the deal through a third party escrow agent that will provide 100% protection for buyer and seller.
We will use Ebay's Secure Payment Center to handle the funds. They will also offer you a 5 days inspection period with money back guarantee. I have a $20,000 insurance policy with them so We will be both refunded in case of something happens. As soon as the payment will be made I will take a plane to US and take care of the rest of the things ( shipping of the car along with the title ).

This is how the deal works:

1.The Seller will open the transaction --> 2.The buyer has to make the payment to Ebay's Payment Center and they will deposit the money into their secure escrow account --> 3. The seller will ship the item to the buyer and he has 5 days to inspect it -->4.The buyer will contact Ebay and will notify them if he is satisfied or not --> 5.Ebay will release the money to the seller(in case the buyer is satisfied) or will refund the buyer(in case he is not satisfied).

If you agree with my terms please send me your full name and address so I can open a case with Ebay. Remember that time is an issue for me and I received many emails regarding the car, so please contact me ONLY if you are interested

I will wait your reply.

PS : Don't forget to send me your full name and address.

Hey if its really for under $4k i will get it, but a FD for $4k is like someone saying u can buy a mansion for $100k. But i am interested. I live in QUeens NYC. I would like to see the car in person to make sure the car is really for sale. Please call me tomorow at 646.772.0222. I called the number u have listed today and i got a Bank company.

I am interested in the car so please contact me back

Hello there,

My name is Allan Huggins, I email you regarding the 1993 Mazda : RX 7 that I have it for sale.
This car is in great condition inside and out (new paint). It runs and drives beautifully. The engine was replaced 13,000 miles ago and was done by rotary experts in Jacksonville, FL. I have receipts. The interior is very clean and there are racing harnesses attached to the seats. A 4-piece Extreme Dimensions body kit was very recently added and painted a high gloss red. The calipers were painted red to match. A carbon fiber wing and halo headlights add to the aggressive look of the car. The audio system is highly custom. A 1600 watt Kenwood amp power two 12” Alpine Type-R subs via a Panasonic head unit. Pioneer speakers give it a clear, loud sound. The appearance of the system is awesome with the custom false floor and sub box. There is a plexi-glass “RX-7” logo making the amp visible underneath. Red neon allows the logo to glow at night. The radio antenna was removed because the motor did not work. The vehicle is remote start equipped but I lost the electronic key.(easily replaceable) The engine sounds awesome thanks to a Flowmaster 60 series performance exhaust. If requested, I will include the stock front and rear bumpers and a set of 2” lowering springs

I want to let you know that I have few buyers who are very interested in buying the car, so in case you want to buy it asap, please emai me back ASAP.

Thanks
Allan Huggins

Same scam was just on eBay. A US registered FD (with at least 15k in mods) on eBay for Buy It Now $5000. The registration was in the US but the car was in Uraguay. Almost the exact same e-mail message was sent to me when I asked about it.

There's no such thing as "Ebay's Secure Payment Center". What happens is the seller makes a website that looks like an escrow service. Then you put up your money and he runs away with it.

I doubt there even exists an FD in this whole scheme.

even if people didn't, there's still the possibility that somebody could be that stupid and it's a free $3k for the scammer, so it's probably worth it to them

My daddy didn't need to tell me that, but what he did tell me was "when buying a used car, expect to put another $1500 into it. Truer words were never spoken, and I've never been upset with any of my used car purchases.

The funny thing is, in these kinds of scams they even steal the pictures of peoples' cars. They surf and find ads on Autotrader and the like, download the pics, then use them to construct their own phony ads of desirable cars.
These ads most often involve sportscars, BMW's, and the like, hoping to ensnare the young and naive.
