Emissions HELP ASAP!

Hey guys, I need some help ASAP with passing emissions. I know my car wont pass and the guy who said he had a place that could do it for me fell through, now im stuck with dead tags and I just moved out to hoodbridge. I was hoping that someone would be able to point me to the right shop to ask or go with me to see someone that you know. I don't have a ton of money but am willing to pay someone for their help and of course pay the mechanic for his services. Please someone help me out.....I need the tags renewed ASAP so I can start driving her again.

Thanks,
-Brent

Has to be in Virginia?

My mech takes literally less than 30 seconds to "inspect" my car. Glances at it, makes sure it's still black, hands me a sticker.

What works in MD and has for me for a while is to just slam your car down. I get 2 year waivers all the time because it wont fit on the rollers.

Sorry. I have a guy in PA but not VA.

Make sure the car and engine are nice and hot before you smog. It'll make a difference when it comes to emissions. Also how do you know it won't pass? Have you smogged before? With your mods, I wouldn't think it would be too difficult to pass. You might want to take it to a shop (PFS is in VA) and see if they can tune it to be more emission friendly, then tune it back for power once you pass.

It doesn't work in VA...

If you can't get emissions readings, you don't get plates. Period.

The ONLY way I can see to pass VA emissions is to get a similar, passable car on the rollers, but enter your modified vehicle's VIN into the computer.

Readings are sent via modem to the VA DMV mainframe.

Two years ago when I was tested I got 2000+ an error message on the computer for Hc's (limit is around 300 I beleive). I then got set up with a kid at merchants who passed me by putting another car on the roller(two years ago). The following year all merchants shops stopped doing emissions. My car is pretty low, but it can get on the rollers if they inch it forward and constantly move the rack around under the car with minimal scrapping. I also went the rought of changing back to the stock ecu and replacing my cat with a stock one and I still failed horribly.

Someone has got to know someone out there, not all these modified cars in NOVA can possibly be passing emissions.

That kinda thing is getting very difficult these days...The fines are getting bigger and bigger. So shops tend to not want to even risk it, its just not worth it to make $100 and risk getting fined 5k at the least if you get cought.

My advice to you is get to know the other local guys...at least one of them has to have a hook up!

I have the same problem myself, but I have the Bronx close by so its not much of a problem. lol

It is VERY difficult in NOVA, most people have their cars registered in different counties or in different states to avoid this but I don't know how to do that. You guys are my local people and I figured that some of you would have some idea of who could help me out. Big Pimpin said he could do it but it has been 3 months with no response from him, so I guess that is not an option any more. I know a lot of other local RX-7 guys that use him but I guess he just doesn't want to help me out.....If I can't get this done within the next month I will be selling the car, I am just tired of this crap. So PLEASE help me out!

Do you know anyone who goes to VA Tech, VCU, Or any of the other colleges in Southern VA? Or just anyone that lives there and can get your mail or forward your mail from there...

Register your car at their address.

When I did it, I had a lease drawn up. The DMV didn't even want to see the lease, they just took the address i had written on the registration paperwork.

I was thinking about registering it at my sisters house in Va Beach, but I don't know what I would need to do that or what would happen when I get pulled over and my license doesn't match the registration adress.....

Well the shop that got my friend's 10thAE done has a new owner so thats out. I guess your best bet would be to find someone with a turbo rotary thats fairly stock and good mechanical condition and use that to pass you. Last year in the fudruckers meet tofuball's S4 TII was pretty much stock, you might want to PM him and set something up.

How would I pass someone elses 7 off as mine? Just switch the plates? I thought that they scanned the VIN, and if that is so then how could you pass ssomeone elses stock car off as mine? Seems like that is what I am looking for someone to do, but I have to find a rotary friendly emissions shop first.

Thanks for the reply's guys....but still looking.

Nah, you take the car that passes emmisions, pay extra money for my usual hookup ($200), and they put the clean RX7 on the roller and pass it off as yours. Or if you don't care about getting flamed you could just go to VAdriven.com in the NoVA section and post a thread saying you want emmisions hookups for an RX7 just make sure you say its PM only

This is the best idea. Just say you go there on vacation but you work up here. The car is primarily garaged down there.

Lots of people drive a car away from where it's stored. That's the nature of transportation.
