Hey guys hows it goin? I'm looking to buy a 93-95 RX7 from a delearship... 5spd is a must do any of you know where there is any delears with a fd thats 5spd it will be greatly appreciated!!!

Exactly lol but yea small lots as well i can do just trying to grab a warrenty I will buy one ebay however if it has a warrenty offered but the last time i checked the seemed slim pickings for a nice one

just pay for an aftermarket warranty... i had a Western General warranty and they covered me in full when my turbos went

what he said. you can go into any mazda dealership and buy a warranty for any mazda car. just go to the finance director/manager and ask how much it is, just make sure you have the vin number, mileage, blah blah.

besides, dealerships always charge more for them, as everybody knows this. i know, i used to sell used cars.

Most warranty companies won't deal w/ RX-7s, or cars with over 100,000 miles, or cars with twin turbos, or cars with rotaries, or cars over 9 years old... so I'd do your homework first

Well I have cash in hand... I guess ill talk to my local mazda delear about a warrenty on buying a privately owned rx7... worth a shot! Do you guys have any other info about any delears around our area have any 5spd fd's or more info on gettin a warrenty on a privately owned rx7? thank you guys so far you have been helping me out a lot

folks folks. i used to sell cars, you can buy an extended warranty for a god damn 21 model A Ford.

people did it all he time. i think the least amount that daimlerchrysler offered however was a 5 year/50k mile warranty, and there was like a 100 or 200 deductible each time major work was performed. the longer your warranty, it usually was less of a deductible.

I should clarify... re: the age of the vehicle, that 100% applies to aftermarket warranties, such as Western General that TurboLumpy mentioned. Many warranties are purchased online these days, and if you peruse through them quickly, you'll see they offer usually the best coverage, most competitive rates, but are also the most restrictive when it comes to what they'll cover. Gotta be under 10 years old, under 100,000 miles (although I've seen ONE that'll cover cars under 150,000 miles), and can't be a twin turbo vehicle, and can't be an RX-7. Many of them have exclusionary clauses which specifically exclude RX-7s along w/ some other twin turbo vehicles, Vipers, and some other high end high maintenance cars.

As for dealership warranties (which ironically are many a time through the same company lol...but the fact that sometimes a dealership needs to offer a warranty on ANY car they have on the lot makes the rules more flexible), they don't have year stipulations. If you look it up in the book, it goes by make. Then it's sublisted by model, with a price for the warranty based on the mileage and how many years are offered. The books I've seen don't even list RX-7s; they're listed under "Other," under the Mazda category, which is the most expensive category. For example, my '84 FB had only 70,000 miles when I picked it up a year or so ago. I went to a friend at one of the dealerships (who hooks it up ) and he showed me that based on the mileage, I could only qualify for a year of coverage for something like $2200, and that was the ACTUAL price. They woulda sold that to me for like $2700 had it not been done under "employee sales." Needless to say, for that much, I said no thanks, I'll pass.

All I'm saying is, it isn't so simple and dandy. Unless you have a very low mileage FD, you prob won't be getting your money worth w/ a warranty - IF you can get one -- unless you KNOW that motor is gonna go bad within that specified time frame A few years back, when FD's were under the 9 year old mark, and there were a good bit of aftermarket companies (like 3 lol) that would give warranties on 'em, it was WELL worth it, cuz you could score three years or 36,000 miles for just shy of $2K, which is BADASS. Those days are long gone...

Again, yes and no.

Many dealerships won't sell warranties unless you buy the car from them. But there are a good number of dealerships that will sell you a warranty on a car you already own (ie not bought through them) - and oh boy will they make a killing on it

What I'd suggest you doing is, pull out the yellow pages (or search online), and make a list of 20 high end dealerships in your area (100 mile radius or something). Call EACH one, ask to speak to the Finance Manager. That's usually who does the warranties. Tell them your year, make, model, and mileage, and they'll tell you no or yes, and if so, how much and for how long (mileage and years). Make a list. See who offers you the longest warranty for the best price.

I did this w/ another car we have, and all the dealerships could only offer 3 - 4 year warranties. I found one guy who offered me a SIX year warranty, and I negotiated w/ him on the price (I bought a few other things from him at the same time). So shop around as you would w/ anything else. Don't just jump at the first offer you get.

And remember, as long as the warranty company approves the repair, you can have the vehile repaired ANYWHERE. You may have to front the payment, but they're usually good about mailing you out a check in a reasonable amount of time. That's key cuz you def. don't want to take an FD into a dealership for repairs! ALWAYS stick w/ rotary specialists.

Be wiery of aftermarket Warranty companies..
Many are either going bankrupt or just disappear.
Many have been screwed in the bimmer forums.

If you do find one that you feel is reputable..
MAKE SURE YOU READ THE FINE PRINT.
They'll fuq you in a heart beat.

Good point...I forgot to mention that. You want one that's been in business for a VERY long time... Also make sure you read what engine parts are covered. Many do NOT cover rotary engines or their internals... It has to be explicitly stated!

Umm...not sure how to take your post, but in any case, I wasn't out to prove you wrong or anything like that. I was simply making the point that it isn't so clear, cut, and dry. There are a LOT of strings attached, and lots of fine print that if one isn't aware, they can easily end up spending a few grand for something that could leave them high and dry, w/o a dime to show for it.

I went to the Mazda dealership in Norwood, Massachusetts (the automile) to find out about the warrantys that some of you are looking for.

I spoke with the financial advisor who deals with the warrantys.

He told me that unless you bought an RX-7 from the dealership then there's no way for him to get anyone an extended warranty.

So good luck trying to find one at a dealership.

You might as well just buy a civic, because most RX-7's are sold if you haven't noticed.

It's sad but it's the truth.

That's ONE dealership. He doesn't represent all dealerships in the US I'm telling you, I bought a vehicle from a private owner, then after shopping around, bought a warranty on it from one of the local dealerships.

Ramy, it's all good brotha. But you do have a valid point. And it seems kind of silly, Finance Managers at dealerships make good money on selling an extended warranty.
