Aftermarket Exhaust BAN in MA!!!
Exhaust ban in MA is imminent again but this time they might actually pass it!!!

"Legislators in Massachusetts are set to introduce a bill in October that will ban modified exhausts in the land of a certain tea party and the world's best baked beans. The pious patriots over at SEMA have been fighting this day for years, but the politicians have decided they've had enough with the Flowmasters, already. The proposed law doesn't make a whole lot of sense, as Massachusetts already has a noise ordinance in place, and the bill doesn't even have any clear standard for the law to enforce. Lawmakers want to specifically ban any "exhaust system which has been modified in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the exhaust." While we're not all that excited about annoying exhausts that can wake a trauma victim out of a coma, we'd like to see this proposal go the way of the Boston Braves."
I see this as a well intentioned, but ultimately useless bill. As a resident of the commonwealth I testify that there are a number of noise ordinances that are NOT enforced. Politicians are wasting time with this bill, basically many enthusiasts are going to get pulled over for FACTORY INSTALLED sport exhaust systems.
The current system for removing excessive noise is already in place why not ENFORCE it, instead of wasting my tax money drafting pointless bills and impeding on the hobbies of automotive enthusiast's. I plead with all MA enthusiests to please join SEMA
SAN http://www.semasan.com/main/main.aspx?id=62241and rally against this bill by writing to their local representative.

I wish you guys luck, here in VA you can get a ticket if your exhaust looks modified in any way, even if it's quiet. It all depends on the cop, but many of them will hassle you if they see big tips and/or shiny canisters, especially on import cars.
Motorcycles always have the "loud pipes saves lives" argument, but I agree some of the Harley's I see running around with straight exhaust are a bit ridiculous.

I don't think this will go through, it didn't last time. even if it did, the cops probably wouldn't care very much. they would have to pull over every mustang and camaro they saw, plus all the civics with fart cans on them. they wouldn't waste there time, they have bigger violations they have to concentrate on.

as far as i know my exhaust doesnt "amplify or increase the noise emitted by the exhaust" in fact my high flow cat and straight through muffler still muffles the exhaust noise compaired to stright pipes. This bill does not state what the amplifing or increasing of noise emitted by the exhaust is compaired to. If its stock than they must have the stock exhaust decibal levels of every car ever made and than the cop would have to have a decibal metter in hand i am willing to bet every cop will have a radar gun in there hand befor a decibal meter. This is just a wast of tax money.

Mike straight away center field.............. ad it's outa here1!!!!!! good point. either way we can just hope this won't pass in the first place.. PS i think the bill has nothing to do with decibal limits, just banning aftermarket exhaust's period.
