How long (time/mileage) is everyone in for? We were able to accomplish the Skyline trip last year in just a couple hours, if everyone is good with going a little further/longer we could hit some more fun stuff.

My first thought was to extend the cruise to hit more fun roads that don't have a speed limit of 35.
Last year we only got to do half of one mountain pass and I believe for most people that was the highlight of the trip. I've plotted another route that has 4+ passes and you run each of them twice. Unfortunately, The route is roughly twice the distance/time as before so I don't know how many people would be interested.
This would be more of a whole day affair whereas the last one was over mid/early afternoon.

I could be up for a drive....depends on the day. This might be my first Fall/Winter season with a fully operational and reliable FD in a very long time. I will now promptly knock on the proverbial wood.

Not that I don't like Rocky's idea, but wouldn't it be a bit redundant to run the same route twice, let alone four times?
What if we started the run by meeting at a central location for breakfast, then from there choose which entrance we want to access Skyline Drive. For example, we could enter Skyline via Front Royal and run it all the way to route 522 (I think). Then from there we could find a place for lunch and continue along 522, which runs through Culpeper. From Culpeper, we could either take 29 North to Manassas, or route 229 to 211, which will run us into Warrenton. From Warrenton take 17 North to 255 which hits Haymarket and from there jump on I66 and either end it or stop for a quick group hug/orgy.......
Wait, what?

It is not the same mountain pass 4x. It is 4 separate mountain passes that are hit both on the way out and on the way back. Once I get google to cooperate I will post a link to the route. My thoughts were to meet for breakfast, head out 211, make our way down 81 to 33, run 33 out to Simoda, and come back to Harrisonburg for lunch. After lunch we hit 81 again up to 211 and home from there. There are a couple of places along the route for pics/regrouping, and we don't have to be tempted by a good road with bad speed limits.
I've driven out to the mountain resorts before and love 33. But, if you've never heard of it before check out what this motorcycle club has to say:

I'd like to get all the way out to Elkins, but that turns a 6 hr drive into 8 and probably much further then anyone wants to go.

My bad on the misunderstanding Rocky.
Seems like a good route. I just hope I'll be ready by the time we decide to do this. Got some engine parts getting polished, not to mention the shitload of birthday parties that I have to attend over the next few weekends. :-(
I wonder if maybe we could tweak the route a bit to make it shorter (if needed), just incase its too long for those of us that are not local.
Either way, thanks for posting up the map. Hope whatever weekend we chose, that I'll be able to make it.

I feel like since it is an out-and-back that anyone can turn around at any of the re-groups as needed.
If all that said they are interested show, we should get some awesome pictures Somebody needs to bring a good SLR camera this time (I'll run my GoPro too).
I'll put a poll up to decide the date, I feel like we should hit this sooner rather then later. We want to hit this before the leaves drop for better pics:
The sections on the map are peak color: oct 20-Nov 3/Oct 25-Nov10/Nov1-Nov15
This feel like a Sunday thing for everyone else too?
As laid out it is right near 6 hrs of driving time probably less. We will stop a couple of times to rest/stretch too so it isn't all seat time.
