Anyone have any other ideas for scenic drives? Harper's Ferry maybe. Never been there and I hear it is a nice drive and a scenic place, not to mention they probably have some good eats there.
Just a thought.

Harper's Ferry could work. Ive been hearing about this place called Mountain Ridge Rd. or something like that, from what I gather its near Skyline and a somewhat similar road but with much less law enforcement. Ill see what I can dig up about it. In the mean time does anyone else have other suggestions on where to go?

Post a drive layout what roads would you suggest?

Yea, you can probably arrive and drive. I have seen others do it. If the event is full though.... but this one isn't filling up. All that means though is a ton of runs. I'm doing morning and afternoon and am expecting close to 20 runs. If you plan to arrive and drive try to bring a tech inspection form or tell me and I can bring you an extra. The tech inspections are a bit different and they may not have extra forms.
Seems like people here are struggling to find a good scenic drive. Why not map something out to arrive at this event and at least check it out? Well... maybe there aren't any scenic roads near this event. IDK, I rarely join the Mazda club's scenic drives. Mostly the Mx-5 folks do those. I did do skyline once though. We stopped by one of the cave tours which was cool.
Edit: Here is the form: http://www.mscw.com/de09/2010_MSCW_t...ction_form.pdf Just check the lines off and indicate "self" as the mechanic.

I'd like to see us make this cruise happen, but would hate to compete with too many tourists, let alone a ton of VW drivers. So maybe Skyline is out, at least I know it is for me if we do Saturday.
I've never been to Harper's Ferry, but thought it would be cool, due to the fact that it has some decent Historic past and it should have some nice places to choose from when it comes to lunch. Here is a map I ran from Leesburg. Meeting place could be anywhere, but as far as this goes there are plenty of routes there, and we could even take 340N to 15S for our ride home, just to give them a chance to breath.

If anyone is familiar with the highlighted route, please chime in. I'd hate for it to be some two lane, pot hole filled road.
Of course, Skyline is a large location, and we might be able to avoid the VWs if we can get an idea of where they might be, and/or routes they might be taking.
Thoughts?

My first choice was Skyline but like you said, it wouldn't be much fun with all of that traffic. I have a friend on the "inside" of that group so maybe I can figure out what routs they are taking so we don't end up in all of that congestion. Theres only a few more days to get this set up, come on people lets get this started!

For anybody considering the auto-X I was talking about, morning registration is now full. Afternoon is still open though.
I'll also make another effort to come out on Friday. I can't for the next 2 weeks though but maybe Friday the 29th.

Just an FYI:
AndrewTech's Halloween Autox Event - $15 and free food!
The next CDC autox is sponsored by AndrewTech (they are paying for the food and part of the entry fee).
This autox will be a Test and Tune event with no points. We plan to run event with the typical 4 heats with 3 runs in the morning and 3 in the afternoon (like a normal CDC autox).
The entry fee will be $15 for all participants. However, to keep with the Halloween Spirit, each participant that registers in a Halloween costume (a real outfit not just a button or hat - put some real effort in it!), you'll only have to pay $10!
$10 to autox with free food!
The field will be limited, and we expect the field to fill up extremely quickly. So make your reservations at www.capitaldrivingclub.com as soon as possible. We ask that you only make a reservation if you will definitely be there.
Registration and tech inspection will be at 8:00 and will promptly close at 8:45 to try to accommodate the full field, while still giving 6 runs. You must be DONE by 8:45. So if you arrive at 8:00 you won't have a problem. Don't arrive at the last minute.
On-line Reservation System
Member reservations (or participants that will join the club upon showing up) for any events can be made at any time. Open reservations for non-members for this event begin Friday October 1st.
New Bar Code System
This year CDC is using a new bar code system. Remember to have your car ready with the barcodes on the vehicle BEFORE the event. Attached are the bar code instructions, driver barcodes, and vehicle index bar codes. If you have a problem, we can also print your barcodes at the event, if need be.
New Members
We will be accepting new members at this event. If you plan to join the club at this event, you may make a reservation at this time by doing the following:
1. Use "0" as the member number (a permanent number will be assigned to you after you join and you will get a temporary number for this event)
2. TYPE "I will be joining the club at this event" in the NOTES section when making you reservation.
The annual membership is $30 and is good for 12 months from the date you join.
If you have any comments or questions, please feel free to contact me.
