I was once told to use engine restore (little silverish can) to help my rotary last longer and preform better ? I have a 1987 rx7 n/a with 161k and I was told by a previous fc owner it worked great? Is he right ? Or would I be messing up a wonderful engine. On note car has died on me and wouldn't kick over (did the deflooding procedure twice) and I had to push it home . It was cold but not enough to see my breath.

 

since you, or anybody, knows what that stuff does i wouldn't use it.

additionally you don't know what problem you're trying to fix.

a better use of money would be to figure out the problem you need to fix

I'm pretty new to the rotary engines but have been employed as a tech for over 6 years and my advice when adding any of those type of "fix in a can" is not advised. dont get me wrong though there are some things that are proactive such as lucas oil stabilizer for a piston engine or stuff along those lines but things like radiator fix in a can where it might stop your leak but its not like that stuff has a brain and only clogs up the leak its going to clog everything else in that system.
i would only use something like that for a temp band aid to get your clunker to last you a couple more months before getting scraped. But if your planning to rebuild or keep what you have stay away from those types of fixes.

As of right now im in the same boat mine has almost 200k without a rebuild and is smoking very bad. I was lucky enough to score another engine to rebuild while still driving mine around .

But i'm sure there are additives that are safe and recommended by the community that has been proven by use to benefit a high mileage rotary engine I hope someone chimes in and helps you get your answer.

what did you do to get the engine started after the incident you described in your original post?

 

At your mileage, yourself and fc831's engines are on there last legs anyways so start saving money for a rebuild. I don't see that stuff harming the engine as its just another lubricant. The chrome rotor housing surface is very similar to the linings on a piston engine. It may actually do some good once the omp starts pumping it to the housings. The only way to test it is to do a compression check before you add the restorer. Note the readings. Then add the restorer and drive for several hundred miles. Redo the compression test and see if the readings are higher. If they don't change then you just waisted a few dollars.

Most important thing is Premix !!!! Do a search on the forum about it.
Just buy Pennzoil 2 cycle TC-W3 oil, no need to buy the real expensive stuff waste of money. It's around $20 a gallon.

 

If it didn't kick over I would be diaging the starter circuit.
