New FC build up

Alright guys, I need a lot of your opinions, and smarts. This is my plan: After building house in September, I'm gonna roll in a 2nd gen rx into my new garage and work on it until spring. I'm trying to decide on NA or turbo (don't have the car yet), the car will need to be a bit faster than stock, but will also be for show. My ideal spending will be around $3,000 total. That includes bodykit, intercooler/BOV (if turbo), exhaust, CF Hood, rims, and probably paint. This means bargain shopping but that's what makes it fun. I've got plenty of time to plan this out, so what do you think? I will probably save up a bit more, so I can replace Apex seals and stuff if need be. But I want this to be one clean car.

Ideas???

Don't worry, when I do this project, I will include plenty of pics.

yes, the 3K does include the car, so this will be very interesting. I'm going to remove CF hood if I can't find a used/cheap one cause that's $500 off my 3K. Got to go stick with budget. Chris boots, near me, said he'll help me with the car. He's pulled a lot of engines out before, so this'll be fun.
I found a NA RX in Washington for $300 so that's a good sign.

It'll definitely be impressive if you can do mechanics and cosmetics and the car for 3 grand.

I want to stay with rotary. I know throwing a 350 in would definitly be the key to more power, but I gave up street racing years ago, and with too much power: that's definitly tempting. I am more into show, but I do like more power. The stock Turbo II came with 182 HP at 6500rpm's. Thats fine and dandy, but I want at least 200. For show, I need rims, body kit, and maybe aluminum hood (lighter). I figured CF hood would be too expensive, and rims would look good for the right price.

I was thinking orange body, black hood, black wheels with chrome lip. If I can sell my GA for 3500 as priced, that's an extra $500 I can put into the car.
I will probably take this car to SCCA everyonce in a while, but there is a big car show I go to each year in ID. Last year was the best since my car was "finished" then. Too hot though, need to make sure to bring more water.

What I've got in mind so far:

Intake, probably just front mount intercooler with BOV
Exhaust, give me tips on what is best (remember, theres no passing emistions in MT) and there is no such thing as too loud
lightweight flywheel, performance clutch
Turbo timer
Aluminum Hood
Aftermarket wheels (15's or 16's?)
Maybe a couple bucket seats (racing seats are too small for this fatboy, lol)
And a good sound system. Not overkill like my current system.
I do like my in-dash DVD player with camera, might go with another one of those, or just keep the one I have, depending on how I sell my GA

Any more suggestions on what to add (product specific)? What to remove? What not to do?

Didn't the T2s come with aluminum hoods from the factory?

If you want 200 hp don't even worry about a frontmount. Drop the Turbo timer off your list I think you have the patience to wait a minute before you shut your car off.

I would replace the fuel pump rewire the fuel pump have injectors cleaned

You could most likely just go with the racing beat 2.5 downpipe and presilencer. That will keep boost down a little. Oh and your car cannot exceed 110 db in Montana. Highway excluded

Stock flywheel is just fine.

I know someone with a pair of Tenzo R seats brand new "Bigman Ready"

You can bareblock the motor as in remove all emissions you will want to get a dual alt pulley.I can send you how to's on this. You will need to have the fuelcut removed and or purchase an FCD.

If you buy an n/a there is no way you are going to swap in a turbo for your whole $3000. If you have a low budget I would just find a Turbo and buy it. I purchased my car for $1500 and have since put over $9000 in it and am no where near done yet. Still have the stock Intercooler and Turbo and have no ECU etc. I purchased a Jspec n374 ECU and Harness you do not want to do this stay away from Jspec n374.Sometimes the ECU's will not fire the injectors for the rear rotor wich mine did.The wiring harness is pinned wrong and your heat etc will not work neither will your windsheild wipers.

I would replace the fuel pump rewire the fuel pump have injectors cleaned

I would save my pennies and wait on buying the car untill you get some money up. Plan parts etc ahead of time it will just keep headaches to a minimum.

FYI, you can make 200FWHP on a NA S5. It's definitely a modest goal on a T2.

Thanks for the info on the db's. The police don't mind if it's loud, as long as they don't get too many complaints. We are planning on stripping the engine and cleaning everything, replacing some parts, etc..
How much did he get the Tenzo R seats for?

Purple82, what type of mods would I need to get a NA up to 200hp?

Why would I want to get rid of the turbo timer?

Get rid of the turbo timer to save money and use it somewhere else.

My budget was higher, but I make about 200FWHP with a mild exhaust port on T2 housings, NA S5 rotors (high compression), S5 intake, 2.5" exhaust and a Haltech ECU. If you use a Megasqiurt, you're more likely to stay in your budget. There is a large power potential (for a NA engine) in a programmable ECU with these engines.

Well, there could be some changes to my 3K build plan. There is someone looking at my car, but they only have 1K. If they want the car, they will get it without a lot of the goodies. But a lot of those goodies can go on the RX so I'll still have a nice show car. Heres a list of the things I will have left if they decide to get the car for only 1K:

All items are new:
2 12" Subs with 1000W amp (for sale for $500 BTW) in ported box
In Dash DVD 7" screen with backup camera
Lighting (all red):
1 Neon tube
4 LED pods (4 lights pointing)
4 LED tubes
2 Strobe lights (can change color)
Full Underbody Neon with remote
17" Kobe 5 spoke rims with low-pro tires (for sale $600)
60 feet of LED rope light with power inverter

Unfortunatly the 17" rims wont go onto the RX7 because of the bolt pattern
GA is 5X115 12 mmX1.5 70.3 h
RX is 5X114.3 12mmX1.5 59.6 h

Anyone know if theres an adapter that would work for me to keep the rims?

Of course I'm gonna have to try to sell the subs or save up some more money for what I want for the car. Tax return should help

The immune system of an Rx-7 will reject neon tubes, strobe lights, and LED ropes.

Thumbs down FC off project list for now

Well, with the build of our new house and the stupid people contracting stuff out for our houses, they forgot a few things that aren't able to go into the build (fence, Garage door opener, etc...) So I've decided to call off the FC build for a while, until I get some more $ together after the build. I will consider doing a FB though since their dirt cheap, and a flat black beast would be really fun Sorry to get all your hopes up with a new project in mind.

i just bought an 87 rx7 n/a for 200. the engine was stripped but the body is almost perfect. then i bought all the parts to get her running for 400 they are on the way right now so i will let you know how that turns out. but thats only 600 leaving you 2400 to do w.e with. totally feezable as long as you buy a used body kit and turbo setup (if you wanna turbo) and have someone to paint it for cheap

Update!!!!! I just found an $800 RX7 in Idaho. I'm going to pick it up Monday. Pics soon
It's a 88 GTU, great condition, except for the fact that it floods (easy fix)
He's the second owner and sounds old. Probably doesn't know what it's worth, poor guy. It's got 95K on the car
