Colorado Front Plate Question

Colorado Front Plate Question
Hey all
Newish to the rx scene, and have one of "those" questions.
My 87 TII has no ability to mount a front plate. Unless I want to drill into the bumber or block with air flow or fog lights I'm pretty much outa luck.
Anyone out there know the law. I've heard that some speculation on it, just wondering what it actually is.

I've heard it both ways. IT's the law and you'll get pulled over, or it's not actually required, to, no one cares so don't worry about it.
I'm going to ask at the DMV today just to be very clear on what the law is, as I have no interest in breaking it... I just can't imagine with a car that has no ability to mount a front plate without extensive modification that anyone would really care.
Brings up another point. In that case, how do you mount a front plate if it is required... outside of just drilling into the body work of course.

actually there is a law about having something loose in your windshield.
It's considered more dangerous then just not having one.
I'm not really worried about it, just wondering. I wanna be as close to legal as possible, but I'm not going to destroy the car to do it.

Rx7's should have a mounting bracket type thing for the front. I took mine off and probably still have it somewhere if you are interested, you can have it for free, but i really dont think that you have to worry about it, i just have mine in the winshield.

I haven't had a front plate mounted on any of my cars since 1998. Never once have I been hassled for it, by cops or otherwise (knock on wood.) However, it IS REQUIRED BY LAW to have it installed. Most cops, in my experience, don't really care but some of them may use it as an excuse (fishing) to pull you over if they can't prove that you are speeding or doing something else illegal.
Meter maids in downtown Denver WILL write you up for it though, so be fairly warned. I've known many people who have received a ticket for "failure to display front license plate" (or something like that in legalese,) even if they are well within their time-limit at the meter.
For the official record, I can't install the front plate on my current car. The mounting bracket is nowhere to be found (bought the car like that), there are no threads in the holes in the bumper (the plate would just fall off) and I have a new mounting bracket on order at the local stealership.
(Nevermind that it's been "on order" for the last 2.5 years... hehe)

It is the law to have one. The only "cops" that I have ever been pulled over by are state patrol. However if you park on the street in Denver with no front plate, you will get a ticket. Believe it was $15 the last time I got one. Been driving without one for over 7 years, and I can tell you city cops don't care. Watch out for the CSP though, they will pwn you every time...but it is usually a warning and just a reason to pull you over.

as in downtown, you'll get a ticket in boulder if you park it on city streets. i got a warning first, though, and the actual ticket in boulder is only 10 bucks, so it's not a big deal.

When I spoke with the DMV about this they said that by statute we gotta have it permanant mounted on the front.
However, they also told me that unless you are doing something else really wrong, no cop should really care, and keep the front plate in the car, and toss it on the dash if pulled over.
Now I know 4 people who don't run a front plate for different reasons. 1 has been pulled over 3 times but never gotten a ticket. The others have never been even stopped.
So I'll take my chances and not maul the front end of my car...

To the best of my knowledge its more depends on what county your in more than anything. I run a front plate on my daily and I've not run one and never got pulled over for it either way? I would assume that it all depends on where your at and if you got anything to hide, and or need to give them a reason to pull you over?
