1 year till motor swap

So I went again to have the RX emission tested and yet again it failed. I have one year to make it legal. Even after all the new parts and reinstalling the air pump my hydrocarbons(HC) was still double the limit. Granted the HC the first time it was tested was 4 times the limit so I am proud I got it cut in half. I have been really enjoying the way the RX drives and how the engine feels. So now I start to save for either a 302, 350, or take a swing at swaping my probes turbo motor in it.

Do you have the stock exhaust manifold, stock pre-cat, and stock main cat installed? I think I remember you saying that you had a header and hi-flow cat. Not sure if that is going to cut it. Also, did you heat the hell out of the cat before testing? Try driving really hard for a while to get some heat into the cat, then immediately pull into the testing facility.

Ya I swaped over to the racing beat header and bonez cat. The 3 stock cats were all clogged up. I felt I got it up to temps. On the way down there I was slowing down then going wot and also crusing at 4.5k rpm. If I dont end up swapping motors I am just gona get a PO box out in rio

Yeah, with a stock cat and exhaust manifold mine still didn't pass. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Become friends with an emissions tester or bribe one to pass your car. I used to know someone who worked at one and he took side money all the time to pass peoples cars.

I don't think an engine swap would fix your problem unless you're burning a ton of oil. You should probably look at the emissions, spark and fueling systems. The air control system has got to be functional for these cars to pass emissions.

My car is having trouble passing emissions, but I have new spark plugs, filters, cats, etc. What do I do?

and:
J-rats Recipe for cheating emissions if its ABSOLUTELY necessary:

1. Turn variable resistor to full lean, or as lean as you can get and still run.
2. Trick ACV into pumping air to the cat all the time by removing the FORWARD UPPER vac hose, and capping it.
3. Run 87 octane
4. Run your tank down till your almost empty.
5. 2-3 bottles of alcohol in the tank. Drive VERY GINGERLY to the emissions station.
6. Once you pass go, DIRECTLY to a gas station and fill up with regular unleaded.

thats what everyone has been telling me. No worries I cracked down and bought a 16g turbo for my probe so no motor swap for the rx7....for now atleast. Plus seems cheaper to just fork over an extra $40 to get my car to pass
