OH, and BTW..
bad things have happened today.. very very bad things..
and Uh, i need to come up with some cheddar.. ASAP..
so as I;ve mentioned.. if anyone needs something... let me know.. I'll sell cheap..

the RX-3 has to go... have to actually, even get the title out of my name!!! AHHHH

I would only go about assuming that it is because of the 3 mm apex seals as opposed to the 2 mm apex seals found in later model 13B's. I can't remember the size discrepency between the stock ports on both the 12a and 13b, but if I recall correctly the 12a has smaller ports which in turn would make the engine last longer as well.

3mm apex seals were only found in the turboII right? i remember a while ago chuck saying something about 2mm seals being better than 3 mm in some cases, and alot of car mags that i read that people do rotaries they go with the 2mm seals, whats the reasoning behind that? by the way do they make rotors that have a higher compression, not that i want one just wondering if they do that kinda like they do with pistons

well 2mm against 3mm. lets say we have a fat chunk of steal and a thin chunk. the fatty fat 1 wood more likely brake under stress than flex. and the thin chunk possibly caused by "eddie" wood more likely flex than break. s5 is higher comp than s4 jeffy

is it really? so if i were wanted to build an NA beast i would want S5 matched rotors and for turbo get the lower compersion S4 matched rotors, hmm ill keep this in mind

Well you also have to account for the fact that the grooves for apex seals to slide in are a bit deeper, which is why it uses 3 mm apex seals over the 2 mm apex seals, and therefore you are, in essance, getting closer to the same flex in the seals than what you would if the 3 mm apex seals had the same depth as what they do for the 13b rotors. Instead you have about the same distance sticking out from the rotor, and a bit more to support the seal inside the rotor. Remember, older versions of the rotary engine went up to using 6 mm apex seals, but it too would stick in even deeper inside the rotor.
And to further the portion of the whole smaller ports = longer lasting engine, you have less combustion because there is less air/fuel in the combustion area, and as we all know, the less combustion then the less strain on the engine.
And yes, Jeff, the S5's have higher compression than S4's. They also have lighter internals.
Edit: This is all coming from memory of something I read quite a long time ago, I could be wrong, and wouldn't be suprised in the least if I am.

The only rotor bearings I can find are the racing rotor bearings, but I am assuming that you are pointing out that they are the same bearing. How can that be if the 13B's rotors are wider? That doesn't seem very logical to me at all.

ya true cause its not like they ran the cars at the same time and did it for cost reasons, unless it was for cost reasons and they just didnt wanna pay for a bigger bearing to be made, but they doesnt sound like something they would do
