Anyone heard of LT10 changing its map by its self?
I have been running an LT10 on my 13B Turbo kit car for a couple of years now and it has killed 3 engines with very little mileage. I only run between 8 and 12 psi boost but most of the time 8psi. It is a very mildly ported engine using all Mazda parts and a TO4E. Each time its broken Tips and appears to be through detonation.
I always use the same well respected rotary tuner here in the UK. Each time i go for mapping, the fueling is way off the scale, usually rich, even though it was spot on the last time it was there. I never touch the mapping. We always have trouble when it is on the dyno with the AFR's changing wildly. We have swapped lambda sensors, wideband machines, the location of the sensor but it is always the car. They will do a run and the AFRs will be spot on and then do another run and it will be rich and down on power. Do another run and it will be fine again. Also, when on track, it must do the same as i regularly have huge flames out the exhaust, but not just licking occasionally, I can do half a lap with constant flames. But other times it wont do it. Unfortunately i dont have a wideband but i am aiming to get one, I just figured as i never touch the map it was pointless.
Each time it has blown i have checked everything, I replaced the fuel pump, each time, replaced the coils, had the injectors cleaned and flow checked but it still blows. This time I have even used a completely different engine to rebuild in case it was something to do with that.
The only thing left to change is the ecu which i am reluctant to do but i may have no choice. When the car works it is spot on but for no apparent reason it will blow.
I am going back for mapping the day after tomorrow having run in the new engine, again with new coils, freshly wired in with bigger wire in case that was the problem, new fuel pump, new plugs etc.
I always run pre mix and 99 ron fuel and the temps are spot on, even on track.
I have 12 had modified RX7's over the last 20 years, nearly all turbo charged and built lots of engines, including several 20b's with no problems at all so i know the basics. I have never really tried mapping the ecu as i dont like mapping on the road and need a dyno and i trust the guys doing it.
So, my question is, has anyone heard of microtech's loosing or changing their map?
