Megasquirt Wideband

Wideband
Hey guys,
I've been told on several occasions that I need a Wideband to save myself some time on the dyno.
I have a couple of questions:
1. Can the MS read directly from the Wideband O2 Sensor itself, or does it need some kind of interpereter unit inbetween the MS and the sensor to properly interperet the signal? I hope that makes sense...
2. What is the most recommended brand for the MS?
3. What wire(s) does the Wideband need to be wired to? I bought this MS used from a member here and don't have any of the wiring diagrams/instructions.
Thanks for your help!

1. You need a wideband controller to create the 0-5 volt signal that MS can understand. I use the Innovate LM-1 and it works great.
2. Innovate Motorsports is the cheapest I believe, and it seems to work well.
3. There's an O2 input pin. For the diagram, look for Renns's thread further down on the first page here. You can buy a semi-prefab harness from a couple different places, they are around $50 - $60 and all the wires are labelled on the wire itself, so it's easy to wire.

MegaSquirt software has some support for Wide Band (WB) EGO sensors. Such sensors are made by:
* NTK (L1H1), also sold as Bosch 13246, and
* Bosch (the LSU4).
These sensors (with an appropriate controller) have a different trigger point for stoichiometric compared to a narrow band sensor, and the opposite “slope” to the voltage curve. They require a separate driver board to operate, such as the:
* DIY-WB board,
* Tech Edge controllers, or
* Innovate controller.

All wiring details are in the Megasquirt manual, as well as the manual that comes with your wideband. Grounds must be terminated together at the MS. The analog output signal (appropriately configured) is connected to the EGO input on the MS box.

Reviving this old thread because I can actually afford this now...
Is THIS it?
If I get this Innovative LC-1 (what I linked to just a second ago) is there some kind of live readout on my Laptop (in the Megasquirt) that tells the ratio? I've been looking around the interface and I can't seem to find it.
Here's my interface:
Thanks for helping the noob!

Get the released verion of MT 2.25 - not the beta.
Configure it for your WBO2.
Right click on any one of the gauges. "Swap to" will give you a list of available gauges. Select "Air:Fuel Ratio".

Keep in mind, I do not have Megasquirt n' Spark (MSnS), just regular MS.

Hmm, I was messing around with it some more and I "Activated" one of the files in the mtCfg file -- I think it was called "msns-extra.ini.021s" or something really close to that. As a result I got v2.25 to open, but it gave me all these errors similar to the one I posted just before. And when i tried to load my settings from the old beta version it gave me all these errors: i.e. "Signatures don't match" or "size doesent match" and it warned that it could "severely mangle my configuration."
This whole situation is so confusing. If I didn't explain this well enough; I bought this whole MS system used and wired. The guy I bought it from sent me the software and his settings, but thats about it. He told me I need a Wideband to get it working optimally.
He gave me a few pointers how to install it when I bought it, but otherwise all I have is a bunch of software that I have no idea how to use and the MS hardware (as I understand it) installed in my car. I'm really bad at all this computer type stuff, but i'm willing to learn.
Thanks again for any help you can provide me with...

P.S.: Let me make it clear again, I do not have Megasquirt n' Spark (MSnS) setup, just regular old Megasquirt (MS).

If you really don't have the msns-extra firmware on your MS, then all you need to do is go into settings.ini, and where it says #set MSNS_EXTRA, change that to #unset MSNS_EXTRA, and where it says #unset MS1 (it might be MSI), change it to #set MS1.
That will set megatune up for the standard ms1 code.

Bump... This is kind of urgent.
If no one can help me with the software problems, can someone at least tell me if this is ALL that I need for a wideband (and will successfully communicate with the MS ECU):

Thanks.

I'm not sure what is wrong with your megatune, I have never seen these errors.
I would suggest uninstalling it and reinstalling it...
On first install, it is already configured for the standard MS1 code.

Okay, so I tried installing MegaTune 2.25 on a different computer.
I get this error:
And it won't let me open MegaTune because of that.
Grrr.. Any ideas?
Thanks again,
-Andrew
P.S. Oh yeah, I have the Innovative LC1 now. Once I figure out all this software crap hopefully i'll be able to install it.
P.P.S. MERRY CHRISTMAS!
I get this error:
Code:
ERROR:megatune.ini:0034 - The included file 'MSnS-extra.ini' could not be opened. Megatune is terminating.
Grrr.. Any ideas?
Thanks again,

when you get that error, you have set up megatune for msns-extra.
You must change your settings.ini back to the ms1 setting.
MS1 does not have an AFR target table like msns-extra though for operating in closed loop with varying AFRs depending on load/rpm... it just does the normal narrowband closed-loop algorithm with a different "switch point"
