problem with assembly of megasquirt
oki just assembled my megasquirt and am trying to test it. do you need the simmulator to get a responce out of the cpu or can i just hook up a 9 volt to the power and grounds of the megasquirt. also when i do that the middle led stays on for like 3-4 secoands then goes off. i cant get anything more out of it. i did the echo test and they came back fine. i just cant get any responce out of the cpu like nothing comes up in megatune. any help would be appricieated. also i would like to know what of the options should i install in the assembly. thanks guys also anyone know how to test the cyrstol Y1

it is best to check the operation of the megasquirt with a stimulator. Anyone who builds his/her own MS should get the stimulator.
If the echo test is passing then check to make sure that the processor is inserted properly... you might have inserted it upside down. (Don't laugh, I've seen it happen).
If the MS chip works, the crystal works. Basically if the processor doesn't work, either it's broken, or the clock circuit is broken. I'd suggest just double checking the soldering and other areas around the clock circuit and processor.
As far as firmware and that sort of thing, please search around the forum, and read up at www.msefi.com. The answers are all there, and chances are you'll learn a lot on your way to finding them.
At some point I'm going to do a "howto" on updating your firmware.
I can't provide you a clear answer on how to fix the problem you're having because the problem could be many different things, ranging from how you have your com-port set up, to the type of cable you're using, to poor soldering, or anything in between.

Yea this isn't really the venue for asking assembly type questions here. I found that the mseif.com forums are the best place to get your MS working right then come here for help on making it run you rx7 dont' get me wrong thought Im by no means telling you to go away only that your going to find alot more answers faster over there by searching and reading.
From what you have described the LED comming on and then going out indicates that your MS is working correctly, that is your fuel pump priming. My guess is that its your communication between the MS and your laptop/PC. If you passed the echo test that would indicate your have communication but your 9V battery may not be enough to drive everyting there is alot you should read about troubleshooting and testing. Also if you can get an AC adapter to do your testing 9-12 v 300 - 900 ma that way you won't have to worry about your 9v running low, which will cause all kinds of headaches.
