New to Megasquirt. Questions.

I ordered my MS2 v3. I was wondering what popular swaps where in terms of TPS, AFM, etc.?

I am planning for a turbo next summer, using T2 UIM, LIM. But, til then, I'll be playing w/ the megasquirt and tuning.

I have been reading a lot about everything EFI, ignition ,etc.

I know the stock flapper type MAF everyone says is good for about 450 HP. I was just curious if there were any popular swaps. I read a few people talking about mustange hot wire air flow, and corvette ones. Is there a way to completely remove it? I thought I had seen someone squirtin' that didn't have a MAF on there at all.

In terms of TPS, mine, S4, isn't that great. Any suggestions, or popular swaps for our cars? I don't mind a little bit of fabrication.

I am just trying to put things together in my mind. Getting prepared for what I will need to buy.

Thanks!

Did you order the LM1815 ?

If you didnīt found it yet, here is a good help to start things
http://stuff.pw.cx/Megasquirt%20MS2%...azda%20CAS.pdf

from what i know you can use all stock sensors, TPS, CAS, etc, some need adjust in MS2 board, for the MAF forget it, the best way is to use the MAP sensor onboard.

I donīt know much, but i can help with what i have learn till now

I see that they sell a 3 bar GM map sensor. would this work too?

Just curious if there is something I can put in the engine bay, and run wires back to the MS. Thanks for the info .

If you're running wires you might as well just run a hose back to the MS. The onboard MAP sensor is well characterized and works nicely. The stock MPX4250 sensor is good for 21 psi/150 kPa of boost over atmospheric pressure, ~35 psi/250 kPa absolute pressure.

Now, that works on a non-boosted application right? Would I be able to install the MS on my N/A until I get the turbo in next summer? Would this require a different sensor?

Is there any advantage to upgrading to a different / more accurate TPS?

Any suggestions for wideband? I was going to get a Innovate wideband.

hmmm, another question. I like the rev limiter function. That looks great! what method is prefered on our cars? I was thinking retarding the spark would be better then reducing fuel, because less fuel scares me.... i don't want to detonate.

The base MAP sensor is good for up to ~21# of boost. It works fine for N/A, no need ot fiddle with it unless you're planning on running >20#. I don't have hands-on experience with the T2 TPS so do not know if it's suitable or not. I've heard good and bad about the Innovates - they apparently are accurate and work well but are a bit fragile electrically. I seem to recall that Innovate changed the product and I don't see many postings on them failing any more. I personally use a TechEdge unit and am happy with it. Logic seems to dictate that fuel cut would be dangerous but this isn't so - no fuel is not the same thing as less fuel. If there's no fuel at all you have no combustion and thus no potential for knock. I've been doing fuel cut for 25K miles with no adverse effects. I don't like retard because if you retard it enough to cut power enough to stop it from revving you're shooting the EGT/TIT through the roof and cooking the turbo. I have a dash light that indicates impending cut @8000 and the actual fuel cut/rev limit set for 8500.

Ohhh.....

Well, thanks for the information! I have lots to think about. And, i'll have to check out the techedge O2 sensor.

Innovates LC-1s are fast, easy to use, and from what I found accurate enough, BUT they are pathetically fragile. I would not suggest buying one based on those grounds alone. If you option up to a higher model Innovate such as LM-2 the story might be different, I don't know. But for me, all I'm after is a 0v-5v 10:1 - 20:1 output to whack into my mega, so the logical for me is the DIY model techedge. I will order one when I need it.

Regarding sensors

I have used,

Stock Mazda Air temp (NOT GM SPEC!!!)
Stock S5 Turbo Full Range TPS
Haltech Style TPS
GM SPEC Coolant temp from DIYAUTOTUNE
GM SPEC Air temp from DIYAUTOTUNE

and I have had no problems whatsoever with all the differing sensors. I would just suggest using whatever is easiest

Regarding MAP sensors always use the default megasquirt inbuilt MAP sensor unless you need one of the following requirements

#1 More than 19psi or so of boost
#2 You NEED altitude compensation

If you meet either of those conditions I would suggest the Map daddy from DIYAUTOTUNE. Matt from diy is a top bloke with top notch customer support.

Definitely build the 2nd VR sensor circuit, thermo fan circuit, idle control valve circuit, boost control circuit etc. One more addon you might be interested in is a proper low impedance injector driver. I think a guy called jbperf makes a PCB with parts for that. I have had no end to troubles with the internal low-z injector driver circuit. Easiest here would be to just use S5 Turbo 2 fuel injectors, they are purple maybe faded to red, have the part number 195500-2020 they have an oval plug on them. Run them about 1.0ms open time, with a flow rate of 550cc in the settings, and dial in 43.5psi fuel pressure at idle without the MAP line hooked up to your FPR. If you are using the mazda fuel regulator built into your standard fuel rails then just don't worry about it.

Hope I can be some help. Check out my youtubes and datalogs of my 12AT S2 if you want to see what megasquirt can do.

http://jbperf.com/p&h_board/index.html is a link to the P&H board.

Jean at jbperf.com makes awesome auxiliary PCBs for the MS project, even better technical support by email. Great guy, great products. No, I don't work for him or even know him personally, I'm just a satisfied customer that likes to give kudos to the good guys out there.
