I think this is a good question that needs to be stickied.
I had/have the same questions and many other have too.
It would be nice to have some sort of diagram or pin-to-pin instruction showing the less electronics savy individual how to hook up the zeal board so that either one or two of the daughter card VR circuits work in conjunction with the pinout orientation of the AarronCake schematic.
the reason being is that the connection points of the DIY autotune and AaronCake's writeup conflict and unless you know the internal workings of each board, it can be confusing.
Example, one of the IAC pins is used as the e-fan switch in the AC writeup but is used for the Zeal in the DIY writeup.
Obviously there is more than one way of doing it but I would hazard to guess that the majority of the MS users are using the AC writeup as their bible and again, understanding that there are many diffrent ways of building this fuel controler, I do beleive that a schematic WRT AC's writeup is appropriate.

i tend to agree that there should be a comprehensive writeup, but that's the problem. like you said, there are too many ways to get the same result (a working engine) and it's compounded by the variety of MegaSquirt systems (self-made, pre-made, different versions, etc.) and the Zeal connections. so the prospect of a simple and comprehensive writeup looks bleak.

When I do have an MSII and a Zeal in my hands (maybe late this summer for my Cosmo?) I'll update my writeup.

The pullup resistors have nothing to do with the Zeal board BTW. The pullups go on the LEDs on the v3 board.
If you can't get spark are you getting RPM? If you're getting RPM and no spark, then the Zeal board isn't the problem.
If you're not even getting RPM, then you won't get spark, and the Zeal board *could* be the problem. However, it's very likely that there is something wrong with how you wired the v3 conditioner, or with the potentiometers or other wiring if you can't get RPM. Both v3 pots should be turned fully counter clockwise.

wow, i'm really glad so many of you all have contributed to the vast expanse of megasquirt knowledge on the net. I love aaroncake's writeup too. Anyways I'm saving up for an MSII with V3.0. I wanna buy the kit put it together and all of this info is definitely going to help, it's much appreciated.
